Railway Board approves provision of Multi-Level Parking Complex at Secunderabad Railway Station adjacent to Ganesh Temple

The Railway Board, New Delhi has approved the proposal of South Central Railway for provision of Multi Level Parking Complex (MLPC) at Secunderabad Railway Station (Platform No.1 side), adjacent to Ganesh Temple.

Secunderabad Railway Station, the main Rail Hub of Hyderabad city handles around 1.80 lakh passengers each day. Due to inadequate parking area, passengers arriving/departing the station have been facing hardship due to bunching of vehicles at the station entry and the traffic jams on the main approach roads to the railway station. Adding to the problem, there is no further space to extend the parking area.

During the visit of Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Railways to Secunderabad Railway station on 15th June, 2018 for inaugurating a host of passenger initiatives, Hon’ble Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly and other local public representatives brought the issue to the notice of Rail Minister and represented for provision of Multi Level Parking Complex(MLPC) adjacent to Ganesh Temple, towards Platform No.1 side of Secunderabad Railway station.

Accordingly, the Engineering wing of South Central Railway drew a plan for a MLPC of three levels so as to increase the parking area and meet the requirements of passengers. The issue was discussed with the Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, the Nodal Officer of Government of Telangana for identifying Multi Level Parking locations in the twin cities, who conveyed that this facility can be developed on commercial exploitation model and identification of sites for MLPC’s will take some more time.

In the mean while, Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, SCR discussed the issue of development of Automated MLPC adjacent to Ganesh Temple, Secunderabad Railway Station with the Vice Chairman, RLDA. The General Manager also spoke to the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Indian Railway Station Development Corporation. Acting further, SCR had made a request to the Railway Board for approving the proposal for the MLPC at Secunderabad which met a positive response.

SCR officials will hold a meeting with the Managing Director, Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd and General Manager, Rail Land Development Authority on the matter, subsequent to which the executing agency i.e., RLDA or State Government will be decided to take up the work of the Multi Level Parking Complex.
