Cement industry is second largest freight contributer for Indian Railways. Cement production in India is around 500 Million Tonnes (MTs) and 23% of the Cement production is transported by Indian Railways. SCR has loadded 20.499 MTs of Cement during the current financial year upto December, 2018. Indian Railways transported 114.18 MTs Cement loading during 2017-18 financial year, out of which South Central Railway transportated 25.82 MTs, it is highest among all Zonal Railways. The Zone has recorded excellent performance showing continuous improvement with the share of 22.65% on the total Indian Railways loading.
Shri N. Madhusudhana Rao, Principal Chief Operations Manager, SCR conducted a meeting with the Cement Manufacturers Association to encourage the industrial houses for enhancement of cement transportation originting from South Central Railway and Indian Railways. Various issues concerned withcement loading by railways and planning to be made for the movement of more loading were discussed in the meeting. South Central Railway is making meticulous plans to improve more cement freight loading with the projections of 27.5 MTs during the current financial year.
Shri John Prasad, Principal Chief Operations Manager, South Western Railway, Shri Manoj Srivastava, Executive Director/Railway Board, Shri B.Nagya, Chief Freight Traffic Manager , SCR and Ms. Aparna Dutt Sharma, Secretary General, CMA and representatives of cement Industry from plants like Ultratech, India, Penna, My Home, Birla Shakti, Jindal, Zuwari, Ramco, Dalmia ,Orient,Virat Sagar cements etc participated in the meeting.
