Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat RUN at Necklace Road, Hyderabad Heralds Golden Jubilee Celebrations of SCR

Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, South Central Railway led a largely attended Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat RUN organized by the Zone at Necklace Road Railway Station, Hyderabad today i.e. 2ndOctober, 2016. The station circulating premises was jam packed with enthusiastic participants who came, all geared to take part in the run. The participants included Railway officers and staff, their family members, sportsmen and women from railways as also a sizeable number of rail users and general public, who joined for a common cause.

The RUN was organized in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of South Central Railway which was born o­n 2nd October 1966 and comes o­n the day of the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi who espoused ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’. The RUN also marked the commencement of the third year of the Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat Mission o­n Indian Railways which was launched exactly two years back o­n 2ndOctober 2014.

The days programme commenced with, the General Manager administering the Swachhta Shapath (Pledge) to the huge gathering, which centered o­n the responsibility of every citizen to practice cleanliness in every aspect of life and make the nation a Swachh Bharat. Tri-colour balloons with “Swachh Rail-Swachh Bharat” messages tagged, were released into the sky by Shri Ravindra Gupta, GM/SCR; Shri A.K. Gupta, Addl. GM/SCR and Smt Shikha Gupta, President, SCR Women’s Welfare Organisation. Later, the RUN was formally flagged  off by Smt Shikha Gupta and was led by the General Manager.

Addressing the gathering after the completion of the RUN, Shri Ravindra Gupta called upon the rail users to join hands with the Railways in making the Mission “Swachh Rail-Swachh Bharat” a success. Explaining the significance of the day, the General Manager made a point that the Golden Jubilee of SCR is an occasion to pursue the objective of a clean railway with still more vigour. The Zone is fortunate to share its birthday with that of the Father of the Nation and is focused to fulfill the Mission towards cleanliness, as dear to Mahatma Gandhi. He also spelt out the plans of SCR in still more enhancing cleanliness o­n board trains and at stations.

Shri Ashesh Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division, several Principal Heads of Departments of SCR were amongst those who took part in the programme.

Swachhta Drive at Kacheguda Railway Station:-

Later in the day, Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, SCR launched the Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat cleanliness campaign at Kacheguda Railway Station in the city, amidst a sizeable crowd of rail users including MMTS commuters’ etc. He administered the Swachhta Shapath (Pledge) to the gathering, before formally taking to the wheels to undertake mechanized cleaning o­n the platform and in the circulating area. He also extensively inspected the catering stalls, passenger amenities etc at the station to check o­n the cleanliness and maintenance. The programme was also marked by several cultural events including songs stressing o­n cleanliness, skits to educate rail users o­n cleanliness and dances by youth groups to drive home the message of cleanliness.

Smt Aruna Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division, SCR, other officers from Head Quarters and the Division were present.

The Swachhta Divas cleanliness drive was also conducted at all major railway stations including the MMTS stations in the twin cities, led by senior railway officials deputed for each of the stations.
