General Manager, SCR Holds Meeting to Discuss Measures in the wake of Demonetization of High Value Currency

South Central Railway is all geared to handle rail passenger needs on its network, in the light of demonetization of Rs. 500 & Rs. 1000 currency notes by the Government of India. In this connection, Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, SCR held a meeting with Senior Officials and Divisional Railway Managers on the Zone through video conference today i.e., 9thNovember, 2016 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad to discuss measures on ensuring that genuine rail passengers are not put to any inconvenience during the course of their travel.

Addressing the meeting, the General Manager stressed on the essentiality of ensuring smooth arrangements and focused on the fact that the Government has specially permitted acceptance of the currency on the Railways till 11thNovember, 2016. He advised that Rs.500 & Rs.1000 being legal tender till that date, passengers shall be allowed to transact the same at Railway Stations for buying their journey tickets and towards food / refreshments. However, he held a word of caution that any bulk or high value ticket bookings should be monitored and the refund process shall be made through banks. In order to tide over the shortage of cash at the counters, Ticket Deposit Receipts may be issued in lieu of cash refunds for passengers seeking refund on 9th, 10th& 11th November, 2016 as advised by Railway Board, he added. Further, cap shall be put in the case of waitlisted tickets in 1st AC and 2ndAC classes at the passenger reservation system counters during the three day period, he stated.

Interacting with the Divisional Railway Managers, Shri Ravindra Gupta advised that Officers & Inspectors be deputed at all major stations and on trains to monitor the situation. The General Manager focused on common prudence amongst the Railway staff on-duty in tackling the requirements of genuine rail users. The General Manager instructed the Divisional Railway Managers to co-ordinate with the Headquarters in case of any unforeseen situation, so as to ensure that the passengers are not put to any hindrance. Security shall be strengthened at the booking offices etc, said the General Manager.
