Delegation from Russian Railways holds Discussion with SCR Officials on Up-gradation of Secunderabad-Nagpur Corridor for Semi-High Speed Rail Services

A delegation from Russian Railways held a meeting with officials of South Central Railway to discuss o­n up-gradation of Secunderabad-Nagpur corridor for Semi-High Speed Rail Services today i.e., 7thDecember, 2016 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. Shri A.K.Gupta, Additional General Manager, South Central Railway led the team of SCR officials while Vladimir A. Finov, Head of Russian Railways Office in India led the Russian Railway team at the discussions. Shri Ashesh Agrawal, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division was also present.

The meeting was held as a carry forward of the MoU signed last year between the Ministry of Railways in India and the Joint Stock Company “Russian Railways” o­n technical co-operation in Railway sector and subsequently the signing of a protocol in October, 2016 between the two entities o­n co-operation in “Semi-High Speed Rail”. Both the parties intend to carry out a Joint Technical and Execution Study for up-grading the speed of passenger trains o­n the Nagpur-Secunderabad Rail Corridor up to 200 kmph.

The discussions centred around the analysis of the Secunderabad-Ballarshah Section of Secunderabad-Nagpur Corridor, which forms a part of SCR’s network. The Russian delegation sought to know the technicalities of the section in terms of its Engineering, Geography, Traffic forecast, existing Infrastructure etc. The Additional General Manager briefed them o­n the salient aspects of the Railway line and highlighted the average traffic flow of passenger carrying and goods trains in the section. Issues concerning various components of Rail Infra such as Civil Engineering involving Bridges, Tracks and Maintenance Technology; Signalling; Rolling Stock pertaining to Locomotives and Coaches, Power Supply etc also came up during the extensive dialogue.

The 12 member Russian Railways delegation will be holding more discussions with SCR officials tomorrow before travelling o­n inspection of the Secunderabad-Ballarshah section for two days to make a field study o­n the feasibility and implementation of the Semi-High Speed Rail Corridor between Secunderabad-Nagpur. Officials of Secunderabad Division will accompany the delegation during the Study Tour.
