Special Catering Drive on SCR 8 Persons Prosecuted for Unauthorized Hawking, Over Charging and Poor Quality of Food



South Central Railway has intensified the Special Drive launched o­n Catering facilities o­n the Railways against unauthorized hawking, over charging and poor quality of food. The Special teams comprising of officials drawn from Catering Department, Ticket Checking and Railway Protection Force (RPF) Personnel have been conducting surprise checks across all six Divisions o­n the Zone.

The Special Drive led to booking of 268 cases, which realized an amount of
Rs. 0.98 lakhs as penalty for the lapses detected. 8 persons were also sent to the Court for prosecution. These special teams involved in the Catering Drive extensively checked Railway stations and trains in all six Divisions Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded, yesterday i.e., 3rd March, 2017, the third day of the drive.

The checks are also meant to inspect the cleanliness being maintained at base kitchens, quality of food items, correct weighment of food items, proper adherence to the preparation process of all food items etc. In order to ensure that the food stalls o­n railway station platforms are manned by staff properly, punitive fines have been imposed o­n them as well as vendors in trains for not carrying proper identity cards. Priority is also being given to curb any type of unauthorized hawking in the railway premises and trains. The catering licensees/vendors are also being counseled wherever corrective action is required for any type of lapse or short coming, cautioning them to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations.
