Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister for Railways Inaugurates Renovated Officer’s Hostel at IRISET

Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister for Railways inaugurated the renovated Officer’s Hostel at the Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET), Secunderabad today i.e., 19th April, 2017 in presence of Shri A.K.Mital, Chairman, Railway Board and Shri Akhil Agrawal, Director General (Signal and Telecom), Railway Board through video remote link from New Delhi. The newly inaugurated hostel facility marks a major upgrade to the infrastructure of this premier Signal and Telecommunications Training Institute in the country. The residential needs of the trainees at IRISET are catered by 4 well-furnished Hostels. The Officers Hostel has three blocks ‘A’ and ‘B’ with 30 rooms each to accommodate 60 Officer Trainees and a ‘C’ wing with 15 suites for Senior Officers. The renovation of Officer’s Hostel has been undertaken for providing a comfortable stay for the trainees at a cost of around Rs. 0.81 Crore. Due to the construction of Metro Rail in Hyderabad, which passes through the Institute, the entrance to the Hostel has been totally redone with the front elevation of the building undergoing a changeover. Provision of covered sheds and portico with murals to the new entrance has been done, to enhance aesthetics. The Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division, Ms. Aruna Singh co-ordinated the renovation work under taken by the Engineering wing of the Division. IRISET is a Centralized Training Institute under the Ministry of Railways. The Institute imparts training to Officers and Supervisors of Signal and Telecommunication Department of Indian Railways, various Foreign Railways, National Public and Private Sector Signal Engineers etc. Apart from induction course training to Probationers (Officers) and Apprentices (Supervisors), IRISET also conducts regular mandatory refresher & safety courses. The Institute was established o­n 24th November, 1957 with the name as “All India S&T School” which underwent a change later to be known as IRISET. The need for training has considerably increased over the years due to technical advancements in Signal & Telecommunication Systems and the challenges to meet growing demand for new services & capacity building. Since inception, the Institute has trained more than 78, 000 Officers and Supervisors and enabled them to handle operation, maintenance, expansion and modernization of Indian Railways as well as other Foreign Railways. IRISET holds a massive training based infrastructure comprising of 10 state-of-the-art laboratories and 12 well equipped class rooms besides the Hostels.
