Mechanical (C&W ) Brief:

SC division is the largest division in South Central Railway with good mix of coaching, goods and other activities. There are 2 major coaching depots(SC & HYB), 1 minor coaching depot (KZJ), 3 major freight depots (RDM, BPA, SNF), 2 minor freight depots (DKJ, SEM) and 2 mixed depots (BDCR, PRLI) for mixed activities.

Major coaching depots SC, HYB and freight depot RDM are awarded IMS certificate [ISO-9001:2015/Quality, ISO-14001:2015/Environment, OHSAS-18001:2007/Health & Safety] during sept-2017.

The details of activities of depots are as below:


Coaching Depots:


Coaching activities are carried out in the following depots:

1.SECUNDERABAD (SC)

2.HYDERABAD (HYB)

3.KAZIPET (KZJ)

4.BHADRACHALAM ROAD (BDCR)

5.PARLI (PRLI)

6.BIDAR (BIDR)

7.KHANAPUR (KHNP)

Main functions of coaching depots:

·PrimaryMaintenance: 

·Owns total responsibility of maintenance including schedule attention.

·Primary maintenance of 60 rakes is being done by division

·Secondary Maintenance: 

·Pit line maintenance is given like primary trains except attention of prescribed schedules as these are owned by other depots/divisions.

·04 trains are given Secondary attention in the division

·Other end Maintenance: 

·Interior dry cleaning, toilet cleaning, watering is done for trains which returns from platform.

·Other end maintenance of 45 trains is being done by division

·Pass through Attention:  

·Watering, toilet cleaning, minimum required passenger amenity will be done for pass through trains.

·250 trains are given pass through attention in the division

·Rolling-in & Rolling-out examination: 

·This will be done for all PM, SM, other end & pass-through trains at all the depots

·Intermediate Over Hauling:

·IOH is being carried out on all types of coaches

·SC & HYB depots is carrying out the IOH activities

·Sick Line Maintenance: 

·Facilities are provided for sick attention of coaches to carry out wheel changing, spring changing and major coupling gear attention

·OBHS (On Board Housekeeping Services): 

·Cleaning of the AC & Non-AC reserved coaches during nominated time slots and as per passenger demand

·To address the passenger complaints en-route.

·24 long distance trains in the division are covered under this service which is an outsourced activity.

·Linen Management:

·To provide clean & hygienic Bedroll to passengers

·Mechanical Department has taken over linen management from Commercial Department with effect from 1.6.2010.

·Mechanized Laundry of 1 ton capacity has been commissioned on 24.12.2010 for washing, ironing & packing of 2000 bed roll sets per day.

·Maintenance of Boot laundry of 12 Ton capacity

·Mechanized Coach Cleaning (MCC):

·MCC is provided for all PM/SM/OEM trains.

·The works are outsourced to a maximum extent on a turnkey basis and all the trains originating from the division are completely attended in all respects before departure.

·Other Miscellaneous Activities:

·Stores Management

·Mill Wright (Wheel lathe, EOT crane, Fork lift etc)

·A.C. curtain maintenance

·Maintenance of SLR Safety equipments

·Breakdown activities if attached    

·Inspection carriage maintenance

·Contract management


Freight Activities:

Freight activities are carried out in the following depots:

1.RAMAGUNDAM (RDM)

2.BELLAMPALLI (BPA)

3.SANATH NAGAR (SNF)

4.DORNAKAL (DKJ)

5.KAZIPET (KZJ)

6.SERAM (SEM)

7.BHADRACHALAM ROAD (BDCR)

1.Freight examination

3types of examination is carried out in the division

i.Closed Circuit rake examination:

·These rakes owned by some depots and supposed to run in nominated circuit

·Will be certified for 7,500 kms/35 days whichever is earlier.

·CC base depots are RDM (BOXN,BOBR) & SNF (BLC,BCCW)

ii.Premium rake examination: 

·Will be certified for 12+3 days and does not have base depots.

·RDM, BPA & SNF depots are carrying out the above examination

iii.End to End rake examination:

·Will be certified for first loading point to immediate unloading point only.

·Freight depots are RDM, BPA, SNF,DKJ, KZJ and SEM.

2.Sick line attention:

                    At major freight train examination points, facilities are provided for sick attention of wagons to carry out wheel changing, medium welding repairs to body and under gear, medium nature draft gear attention. 

3.On train attention of repairs in sidings

                    During train examination minor and medium welding repairs and body welding repairs etc. will be attended on-train without detachment of wagons.

4.Routine Over Hauling(ROH) of wagons

                    Routine overhauling will be done in the following depots

5.Miscellaneousactivities:

i.Mobile TXR gangs are deployed for attention to wayside detached sick wagons

ii.Stores Management.

v.Maintenance of Electronic- In-Motion weigh bridges.

vi.Management of fire extinguishers through AMC.

Electronic In-Motion Weigh Bridges

9 Railway owned electronic in-motion weigh bridges are maintained and they are located at Secunderabad (SC), Hyderabad (HYB), Manikgarh (MAGH), Sultanabad (STBD), Kazipet (KZJ), Tondalagopravaram (TNGM), Charlapalli (CHZ), Shankarpalli (SKP) & stations HSP (Hasanparti).


Linen Management:


Mechanical C&W Department has taken over linen management from Commercial Department with effect from 1.6.2010.


Supply, commissioning & operation of Mechanized laundry of 1 ton capacity at SC coaching depot:
Mechanized Laundry of 1 ton capacity has been commissioned on 24.12.2010 for washing, ironing & packing of 2000 bed roll sets per day
 to improve the washing quality of linen.
