Hyderabad Division completes 11 Road under Bridges in Record Time and Opened for Public Utility -Safety and Convenience of Road users accorded priority

Indian Railways has taken a policy decision to eliminate all the Level Crossings to avoid unusual incidents which are not only endangering the Railway assets but also causing unsafe situations to Road users. The policy emphasizes on removal of Manned Level Crossing Gates in phased manner by providing alternative arrangements such as construction of Limited Height Subways (LHS); Road under Bridges (RUBs) and Road Over Bridges (ROBs) with the co-operation and participation of State Governments.

According due priority to ensure safety and public convenience, South Central Railway undertook the task of providing RuB’s/ LHS in the place of Level Crossings. Hyderabad division of South Central Railway received an accolade for successfully completing 11 Road under Bridge – Limited Height Subway during the period of 8 months between May - December 2020 with an approximate expenditure of Rs. 30.8 crores.

The RuB’s/LHS are provided in the division by adopting innovative methods and state of the art technology. The method adopted by the rail engineers, entailed readying of pre-cast Reinforced Concrete Cement (RCC) boxes for building the LHS vents in advance, taking short blocks of regulation to train services in the section of the work, undertaking fast excavation of earth using heavy duty machinery, placing of temporary pre-fabricated iron girders on either sides of the track for insertion of RCC boxes to act as the permanent Limited Height Subway at the spot, filling up the earth besides the newly readied LHS and restore normalcy of train operations within a short time. This method led to bare minimal impact on train operations.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR appreciated the officials and workforce of Hyderabad division and credited the Engineering department for execution of the task as per the target. He also appreciated the coordination and team effort that went into it, involving the operating, finance, electrical and signal departments too. He advised the team involved in the task of constructing RUBs to continue the good work with same zeal and spirit in future also.
