After successful transportation of Agricultural products through Kisan Rails from Anantapur, Mulacalacheruvu and Tadipatri stations in Guntakal Division of Andhra Pradesh, South Central Railway has now taken initiative to start Kisan Rail, for the first time from Betamcherla station located in Kurnool District. Accordingly, 456 tonnes of onions have been loaded in 19 LHB Parcel Vans, which have relatively higher carrying capacity. The Kisan Rail from Betamcherla has been dispatched today i.e., 27th August, 2021 to Changsari station near Guwahati in Assam.

The Business Development Unit (BDU) team of Guntakal Division have elucidated about various schemes and concessions available for transportation of goods through Rail. As a part of it, they have persuaded about the 50% tariff concession being offered to the customers for transporting agricultural products through Kisan Rail. The benefits to the freight customers like safe, secure, faster and economical way with less enroute damages while transporting through rail has been clearly described by the BDU team.

These efforts have yielded positive results and the farmers, traders, cargo operators and bulk transporters in and around Betamcherla region have shown special interest in transporting onions to North Eastern parts of the country duly utilising the 50% tariff concession. This enables the farmers to transport their products in relatively less time when compared to road traffic and also in getting the better price appreciation at reasonably low tariff rate.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway has expressed his happiness on loading of Kisan Rail from Betamcherla station of Guntakal Division. He complimented the efforts of Headquarters as well as Guntakal Division officials for sincere efforts in capturing the new traffic from Betamcherla. He also advised the farmers and traders in the surrounding areas of Betamcherla railway station to utilise the opportunity of freight concession in transporting their goods through Kisan Rails. General Manager instructed railway officials to extend all the possible support to the freight customers in transportation of Agri products.
