PR.No. 549 - Distance restriction relaxed for purchasing tickets through ‘UTS’ Mobile App



Now, unreserved tickets can be purchased beyond 15 meters and within 10 Km from journey commencement station in case of suburban stations, while beyond 15 meters and within 20 Km from journey commencement station in case of non suburban stations

To provide hassle free and convenient ticketing system for passengers purchasing unreserved tickets, South Central Railway has introduced ‘UTS’ Mobile Application for issuing Unreserved Tickets in the year 2018. The response from rail users has been very good and since then, with the number of people utilizing the App is steadily increasing. To further encourage the rail passengers to use the App, Indian Railways has relaxed the distance restriction by giving more area coverage to the unreserved passengers to use the digital purchase option.

The existing distance restriction for using the App to purchase unreserved tickets has been relaxed from 5 km to 10 Km in case of suburban stations and 5 from 5 km to 20 km in case of non suburban stations. Accordingly, now, unreserved journey tickets can be purchased:

· Beyond 15 meters and within 10 Km from journey commencement station in case of suburban stations; and

· Beyond 15 meters and within 20 Km from journey commencement station in case of non suburban stations.

Generally, a huge segment of passengers o­n Indian Railways travel by unreserved tickets for whom, UTS mobile APP is a more convenient option to obtain hassle-free train tickets. The APP works o­n smart phones with Android, IOS and Windows versions of operating system and the same can be downloaded free of cost. The main benefits of this APP is passengers can purchase unreserved, Platform and season tickets through their mobile (Cash less) as per their convenience without standing in the queue at booking counters. Being paperless, it is also environment friendly. The payment can be made through wallets like R- Wallet, PayTM, Mobikwik or through internet banking. This facility is a big leap in unreserved ticketing and a boon to the rail users.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager Incharge, South Central Railway has appealed to all Rail users in general and passengers travelling in unreserved compartments in particular to utilize the UTS Mobile App and have a comfortable journey without standing or waiting in queues for purchase of tickets at stations.
