Diesel Loco Shed Vijayawada

The activities of Diesel Loco Shed, Vijayawada:

Integrated Maintenance of Diesel Locomotives & Diesel Electrical Multiple Units (DEMUs), Self-Propelled Accident Relief Train, Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van, Road Mobile Accident Relief Van & 140Ton Break Down Crane to cater in Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal & Secunderabad divisions.


ADMINISTARTION:

The shed is headed by One DME assisted by one ADME and 01 AMM. The shed is having 276 Man power (includes Technical Supervisors, Artisan staff for loco maintenance, Ancillary Staff, Ministerial staff, 12 members towards maintenance of Break Down crane, SPART, SPARMV & RMARV and other miscellaneous staff). One Store department attached to DLS/BZA is headed by one AMM with 635 Nos. stocked items.


BRIEF HISTORY:

Diesel Loco Shed, Vijayawada was established in the year 1979 at the cost of about Rs.170 lakhs to maintain 20 WDS4 locomotives and increased to 35 in the year 1989. Progressively these locomotives were withdrawn as WDM2 de-rated locomotives were used for shunting purposes. Meanwhile 02 locos in the year 2000 and 15 in the year 2004 have been transferred to Western Railway. Again 02 locos of Diesel Loco Shed, Moula-ali were transferred to this shed in the year 2004 leaving the effective holding of WDS4 locomotives at BZA to 20.In the year 2006, 13 locomotives have been condemned and auctioned and 02 locomotives were transferred to Shakurbasthi Shed, Northern Railway. 05 WDS4 locomotives are proposed for premature condemnation. Railway Board had sanctioned vide letter No. M.66/DSL/COND.underaged/ 120/Dec.06 dt.24.02.10.


With the reduction of WDS4 locomotives and increase in Electric traction in BZA Division, DEMU services started in Vijayawada from the year 1996 with 5 consists placed under Diesel Loco Shed, Vijayawada to ease severe traffic constraints both in passenger/express services and also in suburban traffic. Presently the total holding of DEMUs is 37 DPCs, 04 DTCs and 88 TCs and is working in BZA, GNT, and SC divisions.


In the year 2002 apart from DEMUs and WDS4 locomotives, 15 WDP1 locomotives were transferred from Diesel Loco Shed, Kazipet to this shed which are working in Mail/Express/Passenger services in BZA, GNT and GTL divisions. During the month of October 2008, 02 more WDP1 locomotives were transferred from Diesel Loco Shed, Tuglakhabad, Northern Railway and put in BZA loco links from 01.11.08 & 09.11.08.


In March 2007, 2 RAIL BUSES were received from NED division to run between COA-KLPH section of BZA division.as the codal life completed by 15 years, with the approval of competent authority both rail buses are condemned.


At present 05 WDS6 new shunting locomotives received from DMW for departmental/shunting purpose commissioned on 17.11.16 & 01.12.16. 


In the year 2015 DLS/BZA received 6 No’s of 1600 HP DEMU formations from ICF. These formations are fitted with PAS (Passenger addressing system),and CCTV for Ladies coaches for safety.


In the month of Jan -2021,DLS/BZA received 05 No’s of WDG3A locomotives transferred from DLS/Guntakal. Apart of this 13 WDG3A locomotives were transferred from DLS/KZJ in the month of May 2021. By the end of 2021 DLS/BZA had received 8 more Locos from DLS/KZJ and 2 locos from DLS/MLY. The shed holding has increased to 28 WDG3A locomotives.


In the year 2022, for the first time in South central railway ,DLS/BZA has started performing I.O.H schedule of “TOWER CARS” and successfully turned out 17 no’s as on date 19.09.2022.


Certifications:


IN Year 2017 DLS/BZA is certified with IMS (Integrated management system) comprising ISO 9001, 14001 & 18001 by IR CLASS. IMS allows conducting integrated audits and assessments, as well as optimizing processes and resources.


2019 DLS/BZA is certified with EnMS 50001.EnMS 50001 helps to improve energy performance through making better use of energy- consuming assets

During this year 2022 DLS/BZA is awarded with Green Co Silver rating.
GreenCo Emphasis on reduction of carbon foot prints in the activities carried out in maintenance practices in DLS/BZA as well as for sustainable development.

Water conservation audits are conducted once in every 6 Months.

Energy audits are conducted once in every 6 Months.

Fire safety drive in shed premises is conducted once in every 3 months.

DLS/BZA gives top priority to safety,Hence for past 4 Years IOD cases are nil.
