VISION
The vision of Locomotive Operations is to run Coaching and Goods Trains safely, efficiently and maintaining punctuality.
ABOUT US
- This wing of Loco Operations Cater crew for all trains plying in all divisions of SCR viz, SC, BZA, GTL, GNT, HYB & NED. Types of train services in SCR are Rajdhani, Shatabadi, Vande Bharat, Superfast trains, Mail & Express, Passenger, MEMU/DEMU, MMTS, Freight trains and Departmental trains.
- Locomotive used to run the trains are Electric and Diesel locos.
- Diesel Locomotives are of 10 types WAM3A, WDM3D, WDM3F, WDG3A, WDG4, WDG4D, WDP4, WDP4B, WDP4D, WDP1, and WDS6.
- Electric Locomotives are of 14 types WAP1, WAP4, WAP5, WAP7, WAG5, WAG7, WAG9, WAG9H, WAG9HC, & new locos WAG11, WAG12B, WAG9HH, WAG9HC, WAP7HS.
- 219 electric locos are utilised for coaching trains and 520 to 550 locos are utilised for freight services.
- 156 Diesel locos are utilised for coaching trains and 200 to 220 for freight trains.
· 40 trains were taken over on Electric traction in year 2023-24 which will result in saving of 74.2 crores per annum.
· By December 2023, all coaching trains are proposed to take over on electric traction.
· 6 trains taken over HOG in SCR loco link in 2023-24, this will result in saving of Rs. 7.57 Cr. per annum.

·Maintenance of trip inspections of locomotives.There are six trip sheds over SCR for conducting trip inspections, safety check and general inspection of locos.Two trip sheds in SC division at HYB & SNF, two trip sheds in BZA division at BZA one for coaching and one for freight locos, two trip sheds in GTL division at RU & GTL.
·New Trip sheds are proposed at NED, NLPD, KCG, TPTY, COA, MTM, SC, LPI and RDM.
Cadre and their Training
Cadre consists of different categories of Running staff viz, ALP, Loco Pilot (shunter), Loco Pilot (Goods), Loco Pilot (Passenger), Loco Pilot (Mail & Express) and also Running supervisors such as Crew Controllers, Traction/Power controllers, Chief Loco Inspectors.
Channel of promotion of Running staff are
Traction Training for all Running Staff (Initial, promotional, conversion & periodical refresher trainings) are given at various training centres viz, Electric Traction Training Centre (ETTC/BZA), Diesel Traction Training Centre (DTTC/GTL & DTTC/KZJ).
For safety all Running Staff are given training at Zonal Railway Training Institute (ZRTI/MLY).
Imparting simulator trainings to staff at ETTC/BZA for Electric Loco operations and DTTC/KGP & DTTC/UBL for Diesel Loco operations.
In-motion simulator for both 3phase and conventional locomotives provided at Electric Traction Training Centre, BZA for effective training of crew.
Monitoring of crew by Loco Inspectors for good engineman ship, Safe train operation and improving troubleshooting skills.
