South Central Railway Achieves Highest Ever Freight Loading Performance of 122 Million Tonnes

-Best incremental loading amongst all zones of Indian Railways

-30% contribution of total incremental traffic over IR

-10% more achievement than the target set by Railway Board

South Central Railway has set a record in the financial year i.e., 2018-19 by recording best ever annual freight loading performance in the history of the Zone by reaching the mark of 122.51 million tonnes (MTs) loading, while the previous best was 116.80 MTs during 2014-15 financial year. 19.47 MTs loading contributed by SCR in the current year is the best incremental loading contributed by any other zone on Indian Railways and is also the highest incremental loading in the history of SCR. It has also surpassed the stiff targets set by Railway Board by loading 10% more than the target. This has led to the Zone crossing the Rs 10, 000 crore mark in freight loading for the first time since inception by earning Rs 10,584.94 crores through freight loading.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway was highly appreciative of the entire efforts and congratulated the entire team of SCR for acting promptly in accomplishment of the feat of best loading performance and also going beyond the target set by the Railway Board too. He complimented the team comprising Shri N. Madhusudana Rao, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Shri K. Siva Prasad, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Shri B. Nagya, Chief Freight Transportation Manager, Shri B. Gopinath Mallya, Chief Electrical Locomotive Engineer and Shri P. Ravi Kumar, Chief Motive Power Engineer (Diesel) and other senior officials.

Having been set a target of 111 MTs by the Railway Board for SCR to attain in the financial year 2018-19, with efficient co-ordination with other branches, the Operating Department of the Zone with continual and effective strategies throughout the year has achieved the target comfortably and exceeds it by more than 10%.

SCR laid an intensive action plan to analyze the requirements of freight customers on an every day basis and by positively responding to the same, without any much hindrance to other factors. Some of them to mention are :

üThis target was achieved even though more traffic blocks were imposed for infrastructural works like elimination of unmanned level crossing gates, electrification of railway lines, track renewal works etc.

üTop priority was given to safety without compromise in infrastructural development works.

üEven a single restriction was not imposed on loading on account of route congestion

üWagon holding was just 2.2 % higher than the last year.

The best ever freight traffic record of SCR’s achievement has been possible to a significant extent on account of major surge in loading of coal and cement. The commodity wise loading contributions to this record freight loading are Coal: 67.56 MTs, Cement: 28.23MTs, Iron Ore: 5.46 MTs, Food grains: 4.42 MTs, Fertilisers: 6.00 MTS. SCR’s freight basket also includes Raw Materials to steel plants: 2.89 MTs, Containers: 1.30 MTs, Petroleum Products (POL): 0.78 MTs, Other Goods: 5.91 MTs.

Among the freight customers of SCR, M/s. Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) of Telangana State was major transporter of Coal to various destinations. The Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited (KPCL), Kakinada Sea Port Ltd located in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh has been other core customers for SCR, enabling transport of huge Freight loads to and from the port to various destinations in the region, ably served by SCR.
