Giant Strides Taken by SCR on Electrification Front

South Central Railway has taken up the electrification of its network o­n a priority basis. At present, out of the total length of 6316 route kilometre of its network, 3503 route kilometres stand electrified, which is sizeably over 55 %. The General Manager, Shri Gajanan Mallya spelt the need for proactive involvement of railway officials at Zonal and Divisional levels and close coordination with the electrification authorities.

During the 2018-19 financial year South Central Railway completed the Electrification of 87 Route Kilometers o­n Obulavaripalle - Venkatachalam section, 38 Route Kilometers of Guntakal – Kalluru section, 45 Route Kilometers of Bellary – Guntakal section, 193 Route Kilometers of Siripuram-Pagidipalli section, 8 Route Kilometers of Vishnupuram-Janpahad section, 55 Route Kilometers of Peddapalli- Lingampet Jagityal section and 6 Route Kilometers of Telapur-Ramachandrapuram section.

Further, the road map for the zone envisages taking up of electrification for the remaining length o­n the zone, for which survey work is o­n and a deadline is set to achieve 100% electrification by 2021-22.

Illumination o­n par with Airport Standards:

South Central Railway took initiative and provided improved illumination o­n par with Airport standards at 11 stations. Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Lingampalli, Kazipet & Warangal stations of Secunderabad Division, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry & Nellore stations of Vijayawada Division, Tirupati station of Guntakal Division, Aurangabad station of Nanded Division and Guntur station of Guntur Division have been provided bright illumination for the convenience of rail passengers.

Development of Renewable Energy Sources:

Solar Power Plants with 4.3 MWp capacity have been provided during 2018-19, totalling to a capacity of 7.75 MWp o­n the Zone. Solar Water Heaters of 7800 Litres per day (LPD) have been provided during 2018-19, totalling to 215300 LPD capacity o­n the Zone. Natural daylight pipes of 4.32 KWp capacity have been provided during 2018-19, totalling to 51.6 KWp capacity o­n the Zone.

Achievements of SCR at National Level:

SCR bagged Six National Energy Conservation Awards 2018 from Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, the highest any zonal Railway across Indian Railways.

Ø 1st Prize to Passenger Reservation Complex building of Secunderabad Division

Ø 5 Certificates of Merit to Rail Nilayam building, Hyderabad Bhavan (DRM office, Hyderabad), Hyderabad, Kazipet and Nizamabad Railway stations.

Ø ‘IGBC Platinum’ rating to Secunderabad station (1st Railway station o­n Indian Railways).

Ø ‘IGBC Platinum’ rating to DRM office/Guntur.

Ø ‘IGBC’ Gold rating to Kacheguda & Vijayawada stations.

Ø 5 Star rating received by DRM Office/Secunderabad (Sanchalan Bhavan) from Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

Ø South Central Railway is the o­nly Railway to earn maximum awards for energy conservation from BEE.

Ø Passenger Reservation System, Secunderabad of Secunderabad Division has won Telangana State Energy Conservation Gold Award -2018.

Ø SCR is the first Zonal Railway o­n Indian Railways to complete the provision of 100% LED lighting in all Railway Stations, Service Buildings and Residential Quarters in the month of June 2018. Anticipated savings 82 Lakh units/year, amounting to RS. 7 Crores apart from reduction in CO2 emission by 7372 tonnes per year.
