The Business Development Unit of Vijayawada Division succeeds in attracting another New Traffic to Railways. For the first time, Maize loading has commenced from ongole of Prakasham District in Andhra Pradesh to Chavadipalayam in Salem Division of Tamil Nadu state today i.e. 24th October, 2020.
Indian Railways is specifically focusing in freight loading with a view to capture new traffic and at the same time to retain the existing traffic. In this direction, Business Development Units (BDU) have been set up at all the Zonal and Divisional headquarters across Indian Railways to precisely concentrate on the freight and parcel loading to enhance the freight and cargo basket of railways and to increase its share in transport sector.
Accordingly, the Business Development Unit (BDU) set up at Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway is consistently conducting extensive meetings with the local merchants, traders and cargo operators and explaining the benefits of transporting by Railways and making aware of them various concessions being offered by Railways.
With the constant efforts of BDU team of Vijayawada Division, a new traffic of Maize has been loaded in a mini rake containing 21 BCN wagons of weight 1323 Tonnes dispatched to Chavadipalayam in Salem Division of Tamil Nadu. Traditionally, this traffic used to be transported by Road. However, the BDU team of Vijayawada division has been able to convince the customers for diverting their transportation by Railways. With support being rendered by the BDU team and different departments of Railways the traders and merchants are persuaded and promised to transport their consignment by Rail in future.
Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway appreciated the efforts of the BDU team of Vijayawada Division in capturing new traffic. He also appealed to all the traders, merchants and rail users to utilize various freight incentive schemes for transporting their consignments by Rail. General Manager instructed Railway officials and BDU teams to extend all the possible help to the customers offering loading by Rail
