- Indian Railways appeals to all Rail Passengers to strictly adhere COVID related Protocols.

- In addition to fines against spitting, Railways will impose fines (up to Rs 500/-) against passengers who do not wear face mask/ face cover at Railway premises (including trains)

In view of the prevailing pandemic situation, Indian Railways has been taken several measures as per the guidelines issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as well as the Ministry of Home affairs from time to time to contain the spread of Covid-19. Accordingly, Railways has been giving prime importance to cleanliness and sanitization at the Railway premises. In addition awareness campaigns are being continuously done to encourage all rail passengers to follow COVID appropriate behavior, to avoid the spread of COVID.

Since the resumption of the passenger train services, Railways has been regularly advising the passengers to always wear face masks / face covers at the Railway premises, both for their own safety as well for the safety of co-passengers. In view of Covid-19 situation, Railways had already introduced imposition of fines (upto Rs. 500/-) against spitting and acts of similar nature, as it is important to avoid creation of unclean/unhygienic conditions which may cause danger to life/public health.

As part of the continuous measures to ensure safety of all rail passengers, Indian Railways have will now be also imposing fines (upto Rs. 500/-) against any passengers who do not wear face masks/covers while at the Railway premises. This is being done to ensure the safety of all the passengers while they are at railway premises.

Accordingly, to prevent spitting (and acts of similar nature) and ensure wearing of face mask/ face cover by all persons at Railway premises (including trains), fines (up to Rs 500/-) under Indian Railways (penalties for activities affecting cleanliness at Railway premises) Rules, 2012 shall be imposed by Railway officials authorized for this purpose.

All Rail passengers are advised kindly wear the “Face Masks” at stations as well as all through the journey without fail. They are also requested to strictly maintain “Social Distancing Pattern” at the stations and during the journey also. The fight against spread of Corona Virus needs joint efforts by all. Therefore, Railways earnestly appeals to all the rail users to ensure that they act with responsibility and support the endeavor of Railways for ensuring a safe journey.
