Indian Railways is ready to help the states with its Covid Care Coaches

As the world struggled to deal with the disastrous consequences of the COVID- 19 pandemic, Indian Railways defied the traditional norms and adopted out of the box, innovative thinking to support its nation in battling the global pandemic. It was Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi’s idea to convert the railway coaches into Covid Care Coaches. As soon as this revolutionary idea was communicated to the Railways team, it operated in mission-mode to ensure that Hon’ble PM’s vision was executed to help the citizens at the earliest.

Prompt & relentless efforts of Railways team led to creation of the Covid Care Coaches

In the month of March, April, May & June of 2020, railway coaches were converted into Covid Care Coaches by the Indian Railways. This stupendous victory was a result of the hard work and prompt action taken by several members of Indian Railways, health experts, doctors etc. They held numerous consultations to design the coaches, identify minutest details such as a place to keep medicines in the coaches etc.

State Governments to use the Covid Care Coaches on exhaustion of medical facilities

According to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Guidelines, these converted railway coaches are used by the State Governments when they exhaust their own medical facilities. In addition to the overall transformation, the process of conversion entails removal of middle berth, conversion of toilets into shower rooms etc.

Several converted railway coaches are available with Indian Railways

As the second wave of COVID-19 hits India and our states are making efforts to control the rising number of COVID-19 cases, Indian Railways is once again ready to help the state governments. At present, several converted railway coaches are available with the Railways in its 16 zones and can be made available for the state governments on request.

Crucial Role of Indian Railways in helping India recover from the 2nd COVID-19 wave

With the central and state governments taking all possible steps to ensure that the interest and welfare of the citizens is prioritized, the contribution of Indian Railways at such a crucial juncture will be, once again, of immense value.
