Indian Railways continues to transport Liquid Medical Oxygen to Telangana though the Oxygen Express Trains. The fourth Oxygen Express to Telangana with 120 metric tonnes of LMO is likely to reach Sanath Nagar in Hyderabad. Significantly, this is the first Container Oxygen Express Trains reaching the state with six Cryogenic Tankers filled with LMO.
Transportation of LMO in Cryogenic tankers will help in fast transportation, compared to the regular RO-RO (Roll Off – Roll on) service. The height restrictions which are applicable in the regular RO-RO service can be overcome as there will be comparatively better height clearance for the container traffic. However, as Liquid Medical Oxygen is a cryogenic cargo, transportation of the tankers by Railways is being carried out taking into consideration like limitations with regard to maximum speed at which it can be carried, maximum acceleration & deceleration. Accordingly, the distance of nearly 1400 kms from the loading station is likely to be covered in approximately 24 hours.
Indian Railways have been continuously operating Oxygen Express trains to meet the request of the States need for LMO. These trains are operated at the request of the State Governments and are given prime importance with their movement done along the Green Corridor, to ensure fast transportation.
With three Oxygen Express trains already reaching the Telangana, this would be the fourth Oxygen Express train to the State. Simultaneously, another Oxygen Express with 04 empty tankers started from Sanath Nagar today.
Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR said that operation of the Oxygen Express trains would be given the highest priority. He advised all the Divisions to continue maintain strict monitoring of these trains so that these trains reach their destinations at the fastest possible time.
