First Oxygen Express arrives at Krishnapatnam

‒ Second Oxygen Express with 76.39 MT on way to Guntur in Andhra Pradesh

‒ 2 Additional Oxygen Express Trains with a combined capacity of 140 MT on way to Telangana

The first Oxygen Express to the State of Andhra Pradesh was received today at Krishnapatnam Port with two Containers bringing 40 metric tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen. This train was operated from Durgapur in West Bengal and traversed a distance of nearly 1,650 kms in around 27 hours. The Railways have operated the train along the Green Corridor which has helped in moving the Oxygen Express at an average speed of 65 Kmph.

Liquid Medical Oxygen is a Cryogenic Cargo which has certain limitations in transportation in terms of the maximum speed, maximum acceleration & deceleration and loading restrictions (like availability of liquid oxygen tankers, loading ramps, decanting facilities, etc). Taking into consideration all these factors, Railways have been operating Oxygen Express trains by identifying Green Corridors for their transportation.

The Oxygen Express trains are being operated by the Indian Railways across the length and breadth of the country as per the request of the State Governments. Accordingly, Oxygen Express Trains have already been received in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over South Central Railways.

Since the start of May 2021, 04 Oxygen Express trains have been received in Telangana. All these trains have been received at Sanath Nagar Goods Complex / Container Depots in the Hyderabad Town. In addition to it, one more Oxygen Express train has started for Telangana from Gujarat and another train is ready for loading in Odisha. These combinedly are brining 08 tankers filled with nearly 140 tonnes of LMO.

Similarly, the first Oxygen Train to Andhra Pradesh has been received today to meet the needs of LMO in the State. Close on the heels of the first train, another Oxygen Train has already started from Kanalus in Gujarat with 4 Container tankers bringing 76.39 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen. The Second Oxygen Express is bound for Guntur.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR has said that Indian Railways are operating Oxygen Express to provide safe and fast transportation of Liquid Medical Oxygen to meet the requirements of the States. He said that all these trains are being operated with utmost priority providing green corridor for their transportation. He advised all Officers and Staff to maintain continuous monitoring of the movement of this train, while taking all necessary precautions.
