To empower the youth by way of providing entry level training in industry relevant skills, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Minister of Railways has launched Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana today i.e., 17th September, 2021 at Rail Bhavan through Virtual conference. This program comes under the aegis of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). Under this program, training would be imparted to the youth through 75 institutes spread across the Indian Railways. Shri Suneet Sharma, Chairman and CEO, Railway Board and other senior officials of Railways were also present on this occasion, while the General Managers of the Zonal Railways participated virtually.
As part of the Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana, South Central Railways would be imparting entry level training program at three major locations over the zone i.e., at Carriage Workshop, Lallaguda in Secunderabad/Hyderabad region; at Wagon Workshop, Rayanapadu near Vijayawada and Carriage Repair Shop, Tirupati. To begin with, the training will be provided in four major industry trades such as Fitter, Machinist, Electrician and Welding. In addition to the 4 identified fields, SCR is also exploring to add further fields of training for the benefit of greater number of trainees to upgrade their skill set and make them industry ready.
The training has a mix of both theory as well as Practical component – 30% theory and 70% practical – so that the trainees are skill-ready on completion of their training module. They would be provided with 100 hours of training spread over approximately 2 weeks duration. The main focus of imparting the training is to develop skilled personnel to suit the Industry requirements.
A notification has already been issued by South Central Railway inviting candidates to enroll in the Vikas Yojana program which is absolutely free of cost. The eligibility criteria for the candidates are 10th standard pass and between 18-35 years of age. The training for the first batch of selected candidates is scheduled to be started from 20th September, 2021. He stated that the training will significantly develop the knowledge and skills of the youths and will enhance their capacity of employment in various industries. He said that this will be beneficial for both industry as well as the youth – while industry will have skill-ready personnel, the youth will have employment opportunities. He also called upon the youths to take advantage of this opportunity by enrolling themselves in the training program and upgrade their skills.
