SCR commissions Automatic Coach Washing Plant at Hyderabad Station & Pit Line at Kazipet Station

South Central Railway, as part of environment friendly measures and to enhance the cleanliness of Coach Exteriors has commissioned an Automatic Coach Washing plant at Coaching Depot, Hyderabad. In addition, a new Pit Line at the busy Kazipet Yard has also been inaugurated, as part of the capacity enhancement measures. Both these initiatives were inaugurated by Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR through virtual means from Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad today i.e., 24th December, 2021. Shri Arun Kumar Jain, Additional General Manager, SCR, other Principal heads of the departments and Divisional Heads of all six divisions were present on the occasion, while the Official heads of the respective units participated through video conference.

To ensure better quality of exterior coach cleaning while at the same time conserving the precious water resource, SCR has already commissioned Automatic coach Washing Plants at Secunderabad, Kacheguda and Kakinada. In addition to these, now, the automatic coach washing plant has been set up at Hyderabad to cater the cleaning mechanism for trains starting at Hyderabad station. The approximate cost of this plant is Rs 1.78 Crores.

The Automatic Coach Washing Plant is a multistage external cleaning system, which uses vertical rotating brushes as well as pressurized water and soap solution jets for cleaning of coach exterior. The automatic coach washing plant is able to achieve complete exterior cleaning of a rake i.e., 24 coaches in about 8-10 minutes time. The manpower requirement also scales down to just one person per shift. Moreover, the fresh water consumption for automatic coach washing gets reduced by around 85% as compared to the normal manual washing method.

As part of capacity enhancement works, SCR has been constructing Pit lines at important stations to facilitate the maintenance of passenger coaches and to attend the minor requirements, if any. Kazipet railway station is one of the major junction stations on South Central Railway with some of the passenger trains terminating and originating in the station daily. For effective maintenance of passenger trains and also to enhance safety, there was a requirement of pit line at Kazipet station. In this direction, pit line has been constructed with the approximate cost of Rs 17.27 crores. The pit line commissioned at Kazipet station accommodates around 26 coaches in one go for maintenance.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR stated that SCR is always committed in completing the capacity building works and implementation of eco friendly initiatives for the convenience and comfort of rail users. The setting up of the Automatic coach washing plant and commissioning of pit line, helps in enhancing the cleanliness and maintenance activity overall. He complimented the Officers and Staff of Secunderabad Division who were involved in completing these crucial initiatives.
