PR No. 798 Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways Inaugurates Electrification Works from Manmad to Mudkhed

- The project has been undertaken with a cost of Rs. 484 crores and will cover a distance of 357 Kms.

Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways, Coal and Mines, Government of India inaugurated Railway Electrification Works from Manmad to Mudkhed and laid foundation stone for traction sub-station in a function held at Jalna Railway Station today i.e., 12th March, 2022 in the presence of Dr. Bhagwat Karad, Hon’ble Minister of State for Finance, Government of India and other public representatives. Shri A.K Jain, Additional General Manager, South Central Railway, Shri Upinder Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Nanded Division and other senior officials were also present o­n the occasion.

Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve stated that Indian Railways is o­n a mission mode to electrify all its Railway lines along the existing broad Gauge routes. He said that the Manmad – Mudkhed section over SCR is a critical rail link in Marathwada region. The Manmad – Mudkhed electrification project will give a thrust to further enhance the infrastructure facilities and provide seamless connectivity to the region from all directions. The project has been undertaken with a cost of Rs. 484 crores and will cover a distance of 357 Kms. He stated that the electrification of Railway lines will reduce the carbon emission and fuel costs duly protecting the environment. Further, he stated that top priority has been accorded for completion of dedicated freight corridors and redevelopment of Railway stations across the Indian Railways network. The budget allocation for Rail infrastructure works for Maharashtra state has been increased in many fold from Rs. 1100 cr to Rs. 11,000 cr. The doubling works from Manmad to Parbhani will be taken up in a phased manner. The Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways stated that DPR (Detailed Project Report) is under fast progress for introduction of High-speed trains in Bombay – Nagpur; Bombay – Pune – Hyderabad sections. In addition, 400 Vande Bharat trains will be introduced in a phased manner and Maharashtra region will also get a good number of Vande Bharat trains, he said.

Speaking o­n the occasion, Dr. Bhagwat Karad stated that the inauguration of electrification from Manmad to Mudkhed is a historical moment in the development of Rail infrastructure in Marathwada region. Further, he stated that development of any Nation is measured in terms of Infrastructure development in Roadways and Railways. In this direction, as per the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Gati Shakti’, Government of India is according highest priority for development of National Highways and Rail infrastructure. Accordingly, Indian Railways is progressing in terms of infrastructure, electrification works, connectivity and improved facilities for passengers.

While presenting the welcome address, Shri A K Jain, Additional General Manager, South Central Railway stated that, Indian Railways is undergoing a transformational phase and progressing in new dimensions. He said that major impetus is being given to Rail infrastructure works in terms of doubling, electrification and enhanced passenger amenities among others. Further, he stated that electrification of Rail network in this section helps in reducing enroute detention and will bring a paradigm shift in train operations.

Salient features of RAILWAY ELECTRIFICATION WORKS From Manmad to Mudkhed:

The Marathwada region of Maharashtra state which is majorly being served by South Central Railway is witness to best part of the Rail developmental activities in the recent years. A special thrust is being given to enhance Infrastructure facilities and provide seamless connectivity to the region from all directions. To give further impetus in this direction, Electrification works for the railway lines in Marathwada region are being inaugurated which will further strengthen the Railway system in this important region.

Railway Electrification works from Manmad to Mudkhed

Indian Railways is o­n a mission mode to electrify all its Railway lines along the existing Broad Gauge routes by 2023 to provide seamless rail connectivity across its entire rail network. The Manmad –Mudkhed section over SCR is the critical rail link in Marathwada region connecting Western parts of the country with the Southern part of the nation. This section connects the Marathwada region with financial capital Mumbai in the west, important towns like Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai in the South and Nagpur and Bilaspur in the East. Considering its importance, sanction has been accorded for the Electrification of Manmad –Mudkhed section as part of the Manmad - Mudkhed - Dhone electrification project.

Salient features of Manmad –Mudkhed Electrification Project line include:

Ø The electrification for this section is sanctioned as part of Manmad–Mudkhed – Dhone section for a length of 746 kms in the year 2017-18 at an estimated cost of Rs. 864 Cr.

Ø Out of the entire distance, the section between Manmad – Mudkhed broadly falls in the Marathwada region is part of the Maharashtra State served by SCR.

Ø The cost of the Manmad – Mudkhed electrification is approximately Rs.484 crores and covers a distance of 357 Kms.

Ø As a part of this electrification project, 6 Traction Sub-stations along with 6 OHE depots and Tower car sheds will be constructed at different stations across this rail network. In addition, Railway quarters are being constructed at these places for the staff to ensure proper maintenance of the Over Head Equipment (OHE). It is also planned to construct 24 Sectioning and Sub-Sectioning Paralleling Posts.

Ø Enables seamless Rail connectivity.

Ø Avoids the change of traction, thereby reducing enroute detention.

Ø Environment friendly as it reduces carbon emission.

Ø Reduction in Fuel costs and therefore cost effective.

Ø Average speed of trains improves due to reduction in detention, leading to improvement in punctuality.

Ø Paves the way for introduction of more number of trains.

Ø Enhances Operational Efficiency.
