SCR Commissions Electrification of 45 Route Kms between Lohogad - Washim in the State of Maharashtra

- Part of Akola - Purna electrification project

Giving a major thrust to “Mission Electrification”, works for electrification of railway lines in Maharashtra State over South Central Railway jurisdiction have been progressing at a brisk pace in all the sections. As part of it, electrification work between Lohogad - Washim for a distance of 45.30 Route Kms has been completed and commissioned as part of Akola - Purna electrification project. With this, a continuous stretch of 80 Kms between Akola - Washim stands electrified, enabling seamless connectivity of rail lines.

Electrification of Akola - Purna section for a distance of 209 Kms has been sanctioned in the year 2017-18 with an estimated cost of Rs 277 Crores. As part of it, electrification between Akola - Lohogad for a distance of 34.5 Route Kms has been completed in March 2021. The electrification of 45.3 Rkm between Lohogad - Washim facilitates a continuous 80 Kms stretch of electrified railway line in the section. Electrification Works in the remaining sections viz., Washim - Hingoli Deccan - Purna for a distance of 129 Kms are in fast progress.

The electrification of these railway lines will significantly strengthen Rail infrastructure in the state of Maharashtra and provide seamless movement of freight and passenger traffic, besides reducing the enroute detentions. Electrification of railway lines in these sections immensely benefit the Railways by reducing the fuel expenditure, while also being environment friendly, as it reduces the emission of carbon foot prints.

Shri Sanjeev Kishore, General Manager, SCR has complimented Officials and staff of SCR Headquarters and Nanded division for completing the electrification works within stipulated time. He opined that, Electrification of railway lines in these sections enhances the rail connectivity to various stations in the State of Maharashtra. He also instructed the officials to continue the same tempo in completing the works in the remaining sections to achieve the prescribed targets by the end of the financial year.
