PR No. 93 - SCR Records Highest-ever Freight Loading and Passenger Revenue for the Month of April in 2022






- 10.495 MTs of freight loaded in April, 202, which is 10% more than last year

- Passenger revenue of Rs. 370.5 crores achieved in April this year is the highest recorded in April in any year

South Central Railway has exhibited remarkable performance in the freight loading and passenger revenue segments in April, 2022. The sustained efforts of the SCR team in strengthening the existing traffic combined with various policy initiatives has helped the zone to achieve 10.495 Million tonnes in April 2022, which is highest-ever freight loading in the month of April in any year. In another noteworthy achievement, the zone has recorded a whopping Rs. 370.5 crores in passenger revenue, which is also the highest ever for the month of April.

SCR has taken a special interest to facilitate uninterrupted freight loading and hence supply of wagons as per the requirement has been ensured. Average number of wagons supplied per day during the month of April 2022 is 5,337, which is 10% more than the previous year. In addition, the relentless efforts of the officials and staff in capturing new traffic and in improving the existing traffic has resulted in the zone achieving 10.495 million tonnes in freight loading crossing the previous loading levels for the month of April. SCR has accorded top priority to coal transportation due to which 5.273 MTs coal was loaded from the zone, which is 13% more when compared with the previous year. Other major contributors are Cement (3.016 MTs), Food grains (0.400 MTs), Fertilizers (0.558 MTs), Containers (0.185 MTs) and other goods (1.063 MTs.).

Overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic, the zone adopted a calibrated and planned approach for the resumption of train services to the pre-Covid levels. Restoration of unreserved train services and unreserved coaches in express trains to cater the needs of unreserved segment, running of special trains o­n the demand routes o­n priority basis to meet the requirement of passengers suitably has also helped in recording the highest-ever revenue of Rs. 370.5 crore for the month of April. In fact, during April 2022, the Zone has re-introduced 17 passenger train services to take the process of normalization of Coaching train services to the pre-covid levels. This is in addition to the Summer special train services (252 trips) operated to meet the Summer passenger rush and the additional 07 MMTS services resumed to meet the needs requirements of Suburban passengers in April 2022.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager (In-charge), South Central Railway appreciated the efforts of team SCR for achieving highest freight loading and best ever passenger revenue in the month of April. He expressed satisfaction for registering best figures in freight loading constantly for months together. He specially appreciated the Officers and Staff of Operations Wing and Commercial Wing at both Zonal and Divisional levels for their dedicated efforts.
