PR No. 542 - SCR Undertakes Swachhata Pakhwara Fortnight Cleanliness Drive

- Shri Arun Kumar Jain, GM (In-Charge) launched the cleanliness drive and led a signature campaign

South Central Railway has undertaken the Swachhata Pakhwara (Fortnight) Cleanliness drive as part of the ‘Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat’ mission from 16th September to 02nd October, 2022. Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager (In-Charge) administered the Swachhata pledge to officials and staff today i.e., 16th September, 2022 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. A signature campaign was also launched by the General Manager to further motivate the staff and ensure active participation in the cleanliness drive.

The Divisional Railway Managers of all the six divisions across the zone i.e., Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal and Nanded also administered the Swachhata pledge to officers and staff at their respective divisional offices. The activities undertaken by the zone o­n this occasion include Swachhata Pledge and awareness campaign o­n Cleanliness & Ban of Single Use Plastic among Railway staff and their families, Swachhata Awareness Rallies, Shramdan and Tree Plantation Programs, Nukkad Natak to bring awareness o­n discouraging the use of single-use plastic etc.,

The Swachhata Pakhwara campaign aims to bring awareness o­n the importance of ‘Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat’ among the public, Rail users and Railway fraternity. Towards this direction, several activities are scheduled to be undertaken during the fortnight drive to bring further improvement in the level of cleanliness at Railway offices, Railway stations and trains. Extensive awareness campaigns will also be carried out to educate people o­n observing good cleanliness habits. The Swachhata Pakhwara activities include Swachh Samwad (Awareness and Cleanliness Dialog with public), Swachh Station (Clean stations), Swachh Railgaadi (Clean trains), Swachh Aahar (Clean food), Swachh Neer (Clean water), Swachh Prasadhan (Clean toilets) and Sewa Diwas (Community Day).

Speaking o­n the occasion, Shri Arun Kumar Jain advised the officers and staff to actively take part in the Swachhata Campaign and also encourage their family members and neighbors to participate in the Swachh Bharat mission. He stated that we should always strive to keep our surroundings clean whether it is at home or at workplace. He also remembered Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean India and stated that we should all work towards achieving it.

Special emphasis will be accorded to curbing the use of single use plastic and discouraging the use of plastic, Community Service, dissemination of information and education o­n better hygiene practices related to cleanliness at stations, trains, depots, yards, Railway colonies and other units. The Swachhata Pakhwara campaign will culminate o­n 02nd October, 2022 and will be celebrated as Sewa Diwas (Community Service Day) to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi Ji.
