PR No. 654 - SCR completes Electrification of 67 Kms Between Kamareddi - Manoharabad stations

- Part of Manmad – Mudkhed – Dhone Electrification Project

Giving a major thrust towards mission Electrification, South Central Railway has been electrifying its railway lines across its network on war footing basis. As part of it, the remaining non-electrified railways lines on the existing broad gauge network are being taken up in planned manner to electrify them at the earliest. Taking this ahead, the section between Manoharabad - Kamareddi for a distance of 67 Kms has been electrified. This is one of the important sections in Telangana region connecting Northern parts of the country.

Electrification of Kamareddi - Manoharabad section has been done as part of Manmad – Mudkhed – Dhone electrification project. This project was sanctioned in the year 2015-16 for a distance of 783 Kms at an estimated cost of Rs 865 Crores. The section between Manoharabad – Mahabubnagar is excluded from this project, as it was already sanctioned under separate project and this has been completed. The length of the project in Telangana is approximately 310 Kms between Dharmabad – Kurnool City (excluding Manoharabad - Mahabubnagar). Earlier, electrification of the section between Nizamabad - Jankampet - Bodhan for a distance of 26 Kms was completed in March 2022. Now, the section between Manoharabad - Kamareddi for 67 Kms is completed and Works are in fast progress in the remaining sections of the project.

The electrification of rail lines helps in providing seamless movement of trains by avoiding change of traction power. It also reduces enroute detention of both the coaching and freight trains leading to improvement in the average speed of trains. It has the potential to introduce more trains in these sections due to the enhancement of sectional capacity. It is also an environment-friendly means of powering the trains, while saving fuel costs simultaneously.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager (In-Charge), South Central Railway has complimented the entire staff & Officers of Electrical department for executing the electrification works with great commitment & dedication. The General Manager has stated that the majority of the SCR network is now electrified and works of the Manmad - Mudkhed - Dhone electrification project are also progressing rapidly.
