As envisaged by the Ministry of Railways, South Central Railway celebrated the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ Birth anniversary of Dharti Abha Bhagwan Birsa Munda today i.e., 15th November, 2022 to pay tributes to the tribal freedom fighter and recall the contribution of the tribal community towards India’s freedom struggle. Officials and staff from headquarters and six divisions of SCR i.e., Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal and Nanded took part in the celebrations and paid homage.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India declared to celebrate 15th November as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ towards the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters, so that the future generations could know about their sacrifices for the country.
To celebrate the memory of tribal freedom fighters, SCR undertook an extensive campaign at Railway stations and office premises by displaying banners / posters and Digital Display to spread awareness among the people. SCR also undertook an extensive social media campaign by posting creatives on the occasion of ‘JanJatiyaGauravDivas2022’ to remember key tribal movements, wars for Independence and several initiatives taken up by the Government of India for Tribal community.
Shri Birsa Munda (15 November 1875 – 9 June 1900) was an Indian tribal freedom fighter, and folk hero who belonged to the Munda tribe. He spearheaded a tribal religious millenarian movement that arose in the Bengal Presidency (now Jharkhand) in the late 19th century, during the British Raj, thereby making him an important figure in the history of the Indian independence movement.
Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR appealed to all for remembering the iconic freedom fighter and tribal leader of our Country Shri Birsa Munda. The ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ will become a medium for future generations to learn about the great tribal legacy, he added.
