Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET), a Premier Railway Centralized Training Institute at Secunderabad will celebrate its 65th Annual Day on 24th November, 2022. The Institute plays a vital role in imparting initial training to IRSSE (Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers) officers selected through Engineering Services Examination and Engineers recruited through Railway Recruitment Board. It is the only Training Institute in India which has all varieties of Railway Signaling and Telecommunications equipment under one roof in 11 laboratories.
Key note address from eminent personality, address by the top management, presentation of Annual Report, distribution of awards to meritorious trainees, release of Technical Magazine and inaugurations will form part of the Annual day event. The attendees in the function include faculty & staff of the institute, trainees, dignitaries from Ministry of Railways and representatives from Industry & Zonal Railways and media.
The 65 years old Institute also conducts Periodical Refresher Courses for Supervisors (around 8000 in Strength) working in Safety duties (Every Supervisor is mandated to undergo Refresher training once in 4 years) and Specialized Equipment Courses for in-service personnel up to Joint Secretary level. on an average 125 training courses are conducted every year with a reach of 4000 trainees. The Institute also takes care of the training needs of PSUs and Private Sector in Railway Signalling and Telecommunications stream. Some of them are from foreign countries.
The Institute has facilities to accommodate 400 trainees and train them with practical hands-on skills, at any point of time. The training is conducted through blended mode in post-Covid era. The Institute has rich learning resources in the form of Technical Notes, Demonstration videos and recorded Classroom & Webinar Sessions. The Institute has a library, two auditoriums, heritage gallery and indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The Wi-Fi enabled Institute is spread over 28 hectares land.
The year 2022 has seen conduct of training through more of on-campus physical sessions than online sessions. The Institute trained around 1500 new Engineer recruits with dynamic scheduling of the training sessions for 6 months through online and on-campus modes. The Institute reached the mile stone of training 1 lakh personnel since its inception. Training on modern technologies like Kavach – Automatic Train Protection Systems and LTE (Long Term Evolution) has taken centre stage. Regular capacity building training courses and web sessions are conducted to enhance the skill sets of man power and bring synergy among different stake holders including policy makers, research agencies, industry and Zonal Railways. MoU is signed with AICTE to introduce Railway Signalling and Kavach as two subjects in B. Tech curriculum. MoUs are signed with 5 Engineering Colleges and a Faculty Development Programme through ATAL portal is conducted in this direction. Efforts are on to set up centre of excellence on Kavach and LTE technologies
