· An Interactive session was jointly held by Railway & Postal Officials to explain the Joint Parcel Product initiative and address any doubts / queries of the Parcel & Freight customers.

South Central Railway held a seminar and interactive session comprising of Railway & Postal Officials along with Parcel & Freight Customers today i.e., 8th December, 2022 at Sanchalan Bhavan, Secunderabad Divisional Headquarters building. Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR and Shri K. Prakash, Chief Post Master General, Telangana region presided from Railways and Postal Side respectively, for the meeting. Shri G.V.L. Satya Kumar, Executive Director/ Strategic Planning & Implementation, Railway Board also participated in the meet for explaining about this novel initiative.
The main objective of the meeting was to explain in detail about the Joint Parcel Product initiative of the Indian Railways and India Post to the parcel customers. The initiative aims to provide seamless end-to-end solution to the customers by leveraging the strength / reach of both these organisations. While India Posts would be providing first mile and last mile connectivity, Indian Railways will be giving middle mile connectivity for transporting the goods from one place to the other. The integration of both Railways and Postal services will help in ensuring door step pickup and delivery of the parcel commodities which the public wish to transport to their respective destinations. This will help in booking of consignments to every nook and corner of the country by the common people conveniently by sitting at their home.
Speaking on the occasion, General Manager, SCR stated that the integration of Railways and Postal departments will be of a great advantage as Indian Railways has a vast network of nearly 7,000 stations and Postal department with approx 1.5 lakh post offices can reach all parts of the country. The customers can get safe, secure, fast and assured door-to-door service on PAN India level. He also said that the transportation through this Joint Parcel Product will not only be cost effective but is also an environment friendly option. He stated that the parcel space available in the Luggage rooms of express train services can be effectively utilized for providing seamless end-to-end solutions to parcel customers, with the help of booking and delivery services by Postal department.
The Chief Post Master General, Telangana Circle expressed that both the organisations coming together can result in giving economical and effective transportation with the logistic base available. He appealed the customers to come out with their requirements, suggestions and doubts which shall be explained in detail on face to face basis.
The Executive Director, Railway Board has explained in detail about the progression of this initiative right from the announcement in the Union Budget to the effective implementation at the field level. He stated that by effectively addressing all the issues and bottlenecks, the parcel service has been started from Surat to Varanasi, which has become a huge success. He also explained about how customized solutions were evolved for handling the parcels through containers / pallets / etc to ensure easy and safe transport (including loading and unloading) of the parcels.
Shri G. John Prasad, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, SCR, Shri Abhay Kumar Gupta, DRM, Secunderabad Division and Shri Sarath Chandrayan, DRM, Hyderabad Division participated in the seminar along with Railway and Postal Officials. Divisional Railway Managers of Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal and Nanded divisions, Chief Post Master General, Vijayawada region also joined the seminar through video conference. Dr. B.S. Christopher, Chief Commercial Manger, Freight Services presented welcome address and a brief presentation about the parcel transportation and other logistics of South Central Railway Zone.
During the meeting the customers showed keen interest in participation of the initiative and also shared their views about the potential of their business and the areas where it can explored. The meeting saw enthusiastic participation not only through physical presence at Sanchalan Bhavan but also through virtual presence of customers from the other divisions in SCR. Almost 80 customers representing various streams of parcel business participated in the meeting.
