The Upgradation work of Tirupati Railway Station, which has been undertaken at a cost of Rs. 300 Crore (approx) under EPC mode are progressing at a brisk pace to complete the work within the schedule time i.e., by February 2025. The Upgradation of the station is being done keeping in mind the needs of the rail passengers for the next 40 years.
Already the work has commenced on the South Side of the Tirupati Railways Station, wherein a new station building is planned for construction. Initially, after completion of Geological Survey, setting-up of Camp Office, concrete lab & storage sheds; the works have continued to move progress ahead. To enable construction of underground parking and other facilities, basement floor excavation is almost completed.
Now, the concreting in the foundations has been completed for the new upcoming station building. About 5,600 cum of concrete in foundations of basement floor and retaining wall is completed till date. A new underground parking is likely to come up with a provision to handle both 2 Wheelers as well as 4-Wheeler vehicles. Further, 60% of the Retaining wall of basement floor has been completed. So far, about 1100MTs of reinforcement steel is consumed in foundations and retaining walls. 20% of the work related to Centering and shuttering for concreting of slab of basement floor has been completed.
A replica of the proposed model of Tirupati station after redevelopment is setup at the entrance of the Tirupati station for the display to general public. The public who came to see this model are very much impressed with the designs and are appreciating the idea. Today i.e., on 21st December, 2022, the school children of Akkarampalle Municipal Corporation Primary School located in Tirupati Town visited Tirupati Railway station on educational tour under the guidance of their teachers and school management authorities. As part of their tour, they took a glimpse of model of Tirupati station presented for display. The school teachers and students have shown keen interest in the proposed redevelopment plan and were very much admired with the designs.
Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR stated that the Upgradation work of Tirupati station has been given special focus to provide the best infrastructural facilities to the rail passengers. Progress of the work is being continuously monitored at all levels so that the work is completed within the targeted time. He also instructed the Railway Officials and staff to extend full cooperation to the executing agency.
