PR No.808 - SCR surpasses 100 Million Tonnes of Freight Loading

- This is the shortest time (9 months 9 days) taken by the Zone in any financial year to reach this feat

South Central Railway has surpassed the crucial milestone of loading more than 100 Million tonnes of freight in the current financial year on 09th January 2022. The Zone has loaded a record 100.236 Million Tonnes (MTs) upto 9th January, 2022, which is around 11.5 MTs more compared to same period last year. Importantly, this is also the fastest time achieved by the Zone to surpass 100 MTs in freight loading achieving the milestone in 284 days compared to the previous best of 306 days achieved during 2018-19.

The freight earnings of SCR also reached to a new height of Rs. 9,755 Cr. These earnings registered a healthy growth of around 24% more revenue as compared to previous Financial Year’s freight revenue of Rs 7,870 Crores.

The growth rebound in freight loading is seen across the freight segment, with all commodities witnessing higher loading levels during the current financial year compared to the same period in the last financial year. The commodity-wise loading includes: 50.35 MTs of Coal (17.7%), 26 MTs of Cement (5%), 5 MTs of Fertilizers (23%) and 18.76 MTs of other commodities (11%).

The zone has been taking several proactive steps to attract new commodities towards rail transportation, while also strengthening the existing freight basket. While the terminal handling the freight movement are being continuously improved, the movement of the fright trains are also being closely monitored so as to ensure timely delivery of the goods.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway complimented SCR Operations and Commercial Team for the best performance of crossing the 100 Million Tonnes mark in freight loading. He stated that the Business Development Units setup across the Zone along with Policy reforms and new initiatives has resulted in exceptional performance by the Zone in terms of Freight Loading. He advised the Team SCR to continue the same momentum for the rest of financial year so as to register new heights in freight traffic.
