Makar Sankranti is one of the ancient festival celebrated in India which is based on solar cycle. It is a three-day festival over Telugu land. People migrate in large numbers during this festive season.
Makar Sankranti falls on 15th January during this year. Taking forward the affirmed mission to serve rail customers across every economic class with importance, SCR has taken initiative to run special trains in large numbers between various important destinations during the festival. Various provisions to facilitate the passengers have been chalked out by SCR to deal with the huge crowd anticipated for migration.
While most of the travelling public plan their journey well in advance, a significant percentage of travelling public plan their journey at short notice and prefer to travel at affordable options of transport. As such to cater this segment of travelers SCR has introduced special trains to and fro to various places particularly between the two Telugu States. Simultaneously, in view of “Jyothi” darshan at Shabarimala piligramage, to facilitate, the large number of Shabari pilgrim, additional special trains towards the holy place have also been notified.
In addition, SCR has also made special arrangements by means of optimally utilization its resources (like manpower) to provide hassle free and convenient travel to its rail passengers.
Passengers intending to travel by unreserved coaches can avoid rush at booking counters by opting to purchase tickets through online facility by accessing the “UTS on Mobile App” in their smart phones. Tickets can also be obtained from the facilitators of Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sewaks (JTBS), Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs).
Crowd management measures for hassle free travel of commuters in the way of increasing the number of booking counters from 12 to 21 at Secunderabad Railway station, duly providing additional manpower at booking counters. The number of Station ticket checking staff has been increased from 20 to 40, so as to provide point to point guidance to the passengers for boarding into correct trains.
Special directives have been incorporated to Squad team of Ticket Checking staff, whose number has been doubled for the festive season, to restrict entry of unauthorized passengers into reserved coaches and to prevent jostling and stampede on station and onboard.
In addition to 30 RPF personnel on regular basis, 30 more RPF staff have been nominated for free flow of traffic in the station premises, and for queue/crowd management at booking counters, near Entry/Exit gates and on FOBs and near trains. Further count of GRP staff has been doubled from 15 to 30.
Apart from provision of adequate manpower it has also been ensured for, Uninterrupted services of Lifts, Escalators, Nomination of Platforms in advance, frequent announcements & Display of information on TIB and CIBs, maintaining cleanliness of Waiting Halls, Pay and Use facilities, Platforms & Concourses. Further to meet with medical emergencies assistance is made available.
