-Part of Manmad – Mudkhed – Dhone Electrification Project
-This provides continuous electrified rail line facility from Secunderabad to Basar
South Central Railway has taken another significant step towards completion of “Mission Electrification” by electrifying important stretches in Northern Telangana region. As part of it, two vital sections i.e., Nizamabad – Kamareddi (for a distance of 50 Route Kms) and Jankampet – Basar (for a distance of 23 Kms) have been electrified. These sections are located in the important route connecting Telangana region with Maharashtra and other Northern parts of the country. Importantly, electrification of these sections provides continuous electrified rail-line facility for a distance of 210 Kms from Secunderabad to Basar, including the branch line between Jankampet to Bodhan.
Electrification of Nizamabad – Kamareddi & Jankampet – Basar sections have been completed as part of the Manmad – Mudkhed – Dhone electrification project. This project was sanctioned in the year 2015-16 for a distance of 783 Kms, at an estimated cost of Rs 865 Crores. The section between Manoharabad – Mahabubnagar is excluded from this project, and it was taken up and completed as a separate project. The length of the project in Telangana is approximately 300 Kms between Dharmabad – Kurnool City (excluding Manoharabad - Mahabubnagar). The project has been taken up in different phases leading to completion of several sections: 26 Route Kilometers (RKms) of electrification between Nizamabad - Jankampet - Bodhan was completed in March 2022, 67 RKms of electrification between Manoharabad - Kamareddi was completed in October 2022 and 72 Rkm of electrification between Mahabubnagar - Gadwal was completed in November 2022. Now with the electrification of two new sections, the stretches from Secunderabad to Basar and Secunderabad - Gadwal stands electrified. Simultaneously, works are nearing completion in the remaining section of this project.
The electrification of these rail lines helps in providing seamless movement of trains by avoiding change of traction power. It also reduces enroute detention of both the coaching and freight trains leading to improvement in the average speed of trains. It has the potential to introduce more trains in these sections due to the enhancement of sectional capacity. It is also an environment-friendly means of powering the trains, while saving fuel costs simultaneously.
Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway has congratulated the entire staff & Officers of Electrical department and Hyderabad division for executing the electrification works within the stipulated time. The General Manager has stated that Manmad - Mudkhed - Dhone electrification project is one of the important electrification projects being executed in the Zone and once the entire project is completed, it helps providing seamless rail connectivity and enhances operational efficiency.
