Golden Jubilee celebrations of Diesel Loco Shed were held in a grand manner today i.e., 20thApril, 2023 at Kazipet Loco Shed. Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR graced the occasion as Chief Guest and released the Golden Jubilee Souvenir issue. Shri P.D Mishra, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer; Shri B. Nagya, Principal Chief Operations Manager; Shri A.K Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division, other senior Railway officials and staff also participated in the program.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Arun Kumar Jain stated that it is a matter of great pride as the Diesel Loco Shed, Kazipet completes 50 years of glorious service to the Nation. He complimented that the shed has successfully run several prestigious express trains including the Rajdhani express for many years. The shed has always been at the forefront in inducting new technologies of locos such as American Locomotives (ALCO), High Horse Power (HHP) Diesel Locomotives, Electric locos etc., he said. In the recent times, the shed also has picked up electric locos maintenance very quickly and has established all infrastructural requirements for maintenance of electric locos, he added.
Further, speaking on the achievements of the shed, the General Manager mentioned that for its excellent and outstanding performance the loco shed, Kazipet bagged the General Manager’s best performance shield award four times. The General Manager also stated that the operation and maintenance of Accident Relief Trains, Kazipet have always been appreciated for fast restoration of traffic during relief operations. Another notable achievement is the development of wheel floating in-situ gadget by Accident Relief Train, Kazipet which is the first on Indian Railways, he added. While concluding, Shri Arun Kumar Jain appreciated the entire team of Diesel Loco Shed for their dedication and commitment and advised them to continue their efforts.
Kazipet Diesel Shed is located at the western end of Warangal, the historical city of Kakatiya dynasty in the State of Telangana. The shed was established on 21st April, 1973 and is set in an area of 6.01 hectares with total track length of 5 Kms out of which 3.5 Track Kms are already electrified presently. The shed which was initially started for maintenance of Diesel Locos has evolved to maintain Electric locos as well, considering the rapid electrification of rail network across Indian Railways. The shed currently holds 220 locomotives (150 HHP diesel locos and 70 WAG-7 electric locos). The Diesel Loco shed is maintained by a dedicated team of 681 employees.
