The Concept of “One station one Product” (OSOP) which has been announced by Union Government has been given more fillip by introducing the sale of Millets through these Stalls. The stations will act as a marketing channel in the form of earmarked stalls through which the millets sale will be done.

In this direction, initially, three stations viz., Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Begumpet have been allotted OSOP stalls through which the sale of millets has commenced.  M/s Nine Nutz, a micro startup is running one OSOP stall at Secunderabad Station Platform -10 and selling millet based sweets and snacks. M/s M for Millets, a micro startup is running the OSOP stall at Begumpet station Platform No 2 selling Millet chikkis, M/s Ancient Foods, a micro startup  is running one OSOP stall at Hyderabad Station selling Milled based breakfast mixes and snacks.

Millets have been an integral part of our diet for centuries. In addition to a plethora of health benefits, millets are also good for the environment with low water input requirement. With the aim to create awareness and increase production & consumption of millets, United Nations, at the behest of the Government of India, declared 2023 as the International Year Millets. To commemorate this, Government of India is hosting various interactive activities around Millets.

The sale of millet based products is being encouraged by Railways to create domestic and global demand and to provide nutritional food to the people.  Railway Board has advised the Zonal Railways for sale of millet based products on the OSOP stalls. Based on a list of startups who are dealing with millet based products provided by Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.

The sales are promising and boosting recognition and clientele for the startups. The owners of the startup have also mentioned that the stall have been a boon for them as many people are knowing about their products now. They are also receiving bulk orders from different places through the outlet.

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR has complimented the Secunderabad Division officials for starting a great initiative of selling millets in OSOP stalls. He appealed to the rail users to utilize this opportunity as the millet products sold at these stations serve the purpose of being both tasteful and healthy. He also instructed the officials to encourage for setting up of more OSOP millet stalls at other major stations also.
