PR No. 61 - Nellore Railway Station Upgradation Works Move On Brisk Pace

 

-Foundation and Concreting work o­n both East and West side of the station building is completed.

-Work for construction of Air Concourse and COP across all platforms is progressing swiftly.

 

South Central Railway has undertaken the prestigious project of Nellore Station redevelopment under “Major Upgradation of Railway Stations” to provide world class amenities with elegant features. The station being situated in the Grand Trunk route and is o­ne of the important stations in the State of Andhra Pradesh. The station redevelopment works have been awarded under EPC mode to M/s. SCL Infratech Ltd., Hyderabad and it is targeted for completion by May, 2024.

 

Right from the date of awarding the contract, the station redevelopment works are moving o­n a brisk pace. Initially, setting up of site offices, concrete testing lab, storage sheds for stacking of materials has already been completed. The design for new station building has been proof-checked by IIT-Madras. Temporary sheds for Railway court and GRP offices have been constructed and handed over to concerned departments.

 

The new redeveloped station building will have cover over platforms (COP) across all the platforms. In this regard, construction of 44 Nos COP pedestals o­n PF Nos. 1 to 4 has been completed and concreting another 16 no’s is under progress. Simultaneously, 29 no’s COP stanchions o­n Platforms 1 to 4 have also been completed. To meet the water requirements of the redeveloped station, a Ground Level Reservoir with 6 lakh litres water capacity has been planned, for which excavation work and concreting of foundations has been completed.

 

To meet the future passenger requirements, additional modifications are being made to the existing buildings o­n both East and West side. In this regard, excavation work for concreting of foundations of East-side Station Building and West side building has been completed. The upcoming redeveloped station will have a spacious air concourse connecting all the platforms. For constructing the same, Concreting of foundations for air concourse o­n both PF-4 and PF No.1 i.e., o­n both East and West side has been completed.

 

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR has stated that the Upgradation works which have commenced at Nellore station are progressing o­n a fast pace and the works are being completed as per schedule. He also stated that the upgradation work will give an aesthetic look to the station with modern amenities for providing seamless experience to the rail users.
