PR No. 242 - Hon'ble Prime Minister to lay foundation stone for Railway Manufacturing Unit, Kazipet on 08th July 2023

-Shri. Arun Kumar Jain briefed media about the upcoming Railway Manufacturing Unit, Kazipet

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR visited the site of Railway Manufacturing Unit at Kazipet and held a press meet elaborating on the details of the project today i.e., 6th July, 2023. Shri A.K. Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division; Shri Munna Kumar, Chief Project Manager, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and other officials were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Arun Kumar Jain stated that the Railway Manufacturing Unit at Kazipet is a prestigious project for the Railways as well the people of Telangana State. He stated that this is the first Indian Railway manufacturing unit that is being set up in Telangana and will contribute towards the overall development of the region. He informed that the Manufacturing Unit will produce various types of rolling stock based on the requirements. The Railway Manufacturing Unit at Kazipet will spur the eco-system of new industrial development in Hanumakonda region of Telangana State and will play an important role in the socio-economic progress of the people in the region, he added.

Initially, a Wagon Repair Workshop was sanctioned at Kazipet to undertake Periodic Overhauling (POH) of 200 Wagons per month. The project was entrusted to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). Later on, considering various factors such as the enhanced requirement of wagons by Railways, regular demand from various quarters for establishing a manufacturing unit to promote local industry, the ‘Wagon Repair Shop’ at Kazipet is being upgraded to a ‘Railway Manufacturing Unit’ with an estimated cost of Rs. 521 crores approximately.

The construction of Railway Manufacturing Unit at Kazipet is another major step in taking forward the Hon'ble Prime Minister's initiative of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. To begin with the Manufacturing Unit will have the capacity to manufacture 1,200 wagons per year. From second year, this will be scaled up to 2,400 wagons per year.

The Manufacturing unit will boost the industry by ensuring better availability of rolling stock. In addition, the increased production of rolling stock will not only spur the economic growth of the State but also of Indian economy by transporting critical and much needed bulk commodities across the country.
