-50% construction of Subway on the west side of the station is completed
-Construction of Ground Level Reservoir with the capacity of 6 lakh litres is completed.
To meet the futuristic needs of the rail users, Nellore Station located in the Grand Trunk route, is being upgraded to provide world class amenities with elegant features. These upgradation works taken up by SCR are progressing in full swing. The station redevelopment works have been awarded under EPC mode to M/s. SCL Infratech Ltd., Hyderabad and it is targeted for completion by May, 2024.
In the first phase of station upgradation, setting up of site offices, concrete testing lab, storage sheds for stacking of materials has already been completed. The design for new station building has been proof-checked by IIT-Madras. Temporary sheds for Railway court and GRP offices have been constructed and handed over to concerned departments.
A new building is being constructed on the west side, while the East side building is being extended to suit the requirements of rail users. Along with it, refurbishing of both buildings and façade improvements will be undertaken. Accordingly, now in the second phase, Concreting of foundations and footings of East side building is completed. Concreting of columns of Ground floor is also completed.In the west side, dismantling of old structures is completed. Excavation for new station building and concreting of columns of Ground floor is completed at the Gudur end while the works are under progress in the other side i.e., Vijayawada end. Concreting of foundations for air concourse on PF 4 in the east side and PF -1 in the west side is completed, while works are under progress in PF 2 &3.
As part of upgradation, construction of 36m wideAir Concourse connecting all the four Platforms and extension of existing subway to both east and west directions to connect it to platform number four and arrival concourse areas on both sides is beng undertaken. As part of it, RH girders were inserted in the track for execution of subway towards PF 4 and the subway construction works are under fast progress. In addition, Construction of Ground level reservoir with 6 lakh litres storage capacity is completed for water requirements. With regards to Permanent court building, the brick work is in progress.
Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR has stated that the Upgradation works taken up at Nellore are being monitored at regular intervals as this station is located on the crucial Grand trunk route. The rail users will have seamless experience once the redevelopment of the station is completed with all facilities and world class amenities.
