Indian Railways has taken up the task of ‘Redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station’ to provide world class amenities with along with elegant features and modern look. The upgradation works of the station building, taken up at an approximate cost of Rs.720 Crores, has gained momentum and the progress of the works is being monitored continuously to meet the stipulated targets.
As part of it, a new temporary booking office has been already constructed near the exit gate no.5 and parcel office and has been functioning to meet the ticketing as well as enquiry demands of the passengers. Simultaneously, excavation work is under progress for construction of Multi-level car parking facility towards the North side of the station building. on the Southern-side, foundation works for the new station building has already commenced. There will be two basements on the southern side – one for facilitating arrival of the passengers and other for meeting the parking needs of the passengers. Work has commenced for construction of both basement levels.
As part of the station upgradation, three underground tanks are being constructed to meet the water requirements of the entire station and coaching depot and other offices. one underground tank of 1.5 lakh litres capacity is being constructed at Reservation office. Another Underground Tank of 2 lakh litres capacity is being constructed near Train Lighting depot area and another underground tank of 6 lakh litres capacity are being constructed near Platform ten. 90% of the civil work is completed for all these tanks. once these tanks construction is completed, the water requirements of the station will be fulfilled.
Further, as the new station building will be having substantially greater capacity, handling more passengers and providing additional services, work has commenced for setting-up additional Electrical Sub-Station (ESS) on the South-side of the existing station building. Currently, there is one 11 KV ESS on the north side of the existing station building. This is being upgraded to 33 KV ESS as part of the station development plan. In addition, a new 33 KV Electrical Sub-Station has been planned on the southern-side. Work for the new ESS has already commenced with 95% of the foundation work already completed. Further, 80% of Cable trench work and 60% of column work has also been completed.
Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway has instructed the officials to carry out the work without any hindrance to the rail users. He said that the works of Secunderabad Station Upgradation are proceeding at a fast pace and the constructions are being carried out as per stipulated plan and set targets. He directed the team to undertake all necessary safety precautions during the work and ensure least inconvenience to the rail users.
