SCR Launches Intensive Fire Safety Drive against Carriage of Inflammable Materials in Railway Premises

To ensure safety of passengers, South Central Railway has launched an intensive checking of trains against any inflammable items being carried and also to prevent passengers from indulging in fire related activities in the trains. The Zone is conducting the fire safety drive from 17thNovember, 2023 to 15th January, 2024. Accordingly, the zone will continue to conduct extensive checks in trains and Railway stations against carriage of inflammable items. Awareness campaigns are also being carried out to educate the Public and Rail users o­n the consequences of indulging in fire related activities at Railway premises.

SCR has launched the drive duly involving the staff from Railway Protection Force and Commercial Branches to conduct checks to prevent and also caution the passengers against such practices in the interest of safety. In this connection, the passengers are advised to desist from practices such as lighting of incense sticks, burning camphor or carrying inflammables etc., in trains and stations which may result in fire hazards endangering the safety of passengers. Lighting fire in any form in trains or other Railway premises in strictly prohibited.

As part of the awareness programs, regular public announcement are being made at Railway stations. In addition, audio / video clips are also being displayed in screen at stations regarding prohibition of carrying inflammables. Extensive publicity is also being undertaken through Social Media, Print & Electronic media through press releases & designed tweets, posting banners, etc.,

As per Sections 67, 164, and 165 of the Railway Act 1989, carrying flammable and explosive articles o­n railways constitutes a punishable offence, with penalties of up to ₹1,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, in addition to being responsible for any loss, injury, or damage caused. 

Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway appealed to the Rail users to co-operate with Railways and avoid carriage of inflammables materials while travelling. He also advised the passengers not to indulge in activities such as lighting fire / lamps etc., in train coaches. The General Manager also cautioned against violating smoking rules at Railway premises.
