Secunderabad Railway Station Upgradation Works proceeding swiftly

Secunderabad Railway Station is o­ne of the major Railway Stations taken up by Ministry of Railways for redevelopment with World-Class amenities and modern aesthetic look. As part of it, the redevelopment works have been awarded to M/s. Girdharilal Construction Private Limited under EPC mode at a cost of Rs 700 crs (approx), for completion in 36 months. Accordingly, works have commenced o­n both sides of the existing station building, so as to ensure completion of the works within targeted time period.

Already, a temporary Booking Office has been constructed in place of existing booking office o­n the North-side for facilitating construction activity, without disrupting the passenger services. Similarly, works for the New RPF Building has been completed. Now, construction activity for other redevelopment works is proceeding.

 On the South-side, nearly 80% of the construction work related to foundations has been completed. Similarly, 80% of basement 1 slab work and 60% of basement 2 slab work have also been completed. The Ground floor of the South-side will be the drop-off zone for the departing passengers, while basement 1 will be the pick-up Zone for the arriving passengers towards the South-side. The basement 2 will have parking facility for the vehicles and will have a capacity to accommodate nearly 200 four-wheelers. To facilitate completion of the remaining work, while also ensuring smooth movement of vehicles, a temporary road has been laid and opened for passengers towards approach o­n the south-side of the existing station building.

 Further, the existing building o­n the South-side will be expanded and have new and modern building. Nearly 45% of the foundation work for this has been completed. Similarly, 45% of the Columns work and nearly 30% of the ground floor slab work has been completed. Further, two Electrical Substations of 33 KV capacity will be coming up in place of the existing 11 KV for meeting the demands of the station. Accordingly, work has commenced for o­ne 33 KV ESS o­n the South-side. Already, civil frame structure and walls have been completed and finishing works are currently under progress.

On the north-side, works for the construction of Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) are proceeding. The redeveloped station will have 6-floor MLCP o­n the northern-side of the station building. Currently, more than 50% of the foundation works, Columns work as well as Ground Floor slab works have been completed. Simultaneously, utility shifting for 25% of the existing station building o­n the north-side has been completed for facilitating redevelopment works. Construction work for a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) towards Kazipet-end has also commenced, for which foundation work has been completed o­n two platforms, while work is proceeding o­n other platforms.

 Shri. Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway has said that redevelopment works are being planned such that there is least inconvenience to the passengers. He said that the new station building will have modern architecture and world-class amenities for the rail passengers. He also said that, progress of the work is being monitored continuously and instructed the team to undertake all construction works duly taking care of all safety measures.
