Building upon its stupendous performance in FY 2022-23, South Central Railway achieved yet another crucial milestone by surpassing Rs. 20,000 crs in Gross Originating revenue during FY 2023-24. SCR registered Rs. 20,339 crs in Gross Originating Revenue during 2023-24, the highest-ever earnings since the inception of the Zone.

One of the major factors for this buoyancy in earnings was the major thrust given by the Zone towards meeting passenger demand on the Zone. The Zone adopted a strategy of continuous monitoring of demand across various directions so as to introduce new trains, special trains wherever necessary and also augment the existing trains having demand through by attaching extra coaches among others. During FY 2023-24, 6,921 extra coaches were attached / augmented on temporary basis in 117 trains to meet higher passenger demand. These initiatives have led to the Zone achieving its best-ever Originating Passenger Earnings of Rs. 5,731.8 crs. Simultaneously, the Zone transported 262.62 millions of Originating Passengers during 2023-24 compared to 255.59 million during 2022-23.

Another significant factor contributing to the record Originating Earnings was the unprecedented performance observed in the freight segment. In FY 2023-24, South Central Railway (SCR) achieved an Originating freight revenue of Rs. 13,620 Crores, marking the highest-ever figure and a 4.4% increase compared to the previous year. Emphasizing the enhancement of our freight services, we focused on diversifying our traffic streams and enhancing existing commodity baskets through customer-centric initiatives. This included the establishment of 6 New Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals and the inauguration of 3 new sidings throughout the year. Furthermore, substantial enhancements were made to numerous essential Goods sheds to streamline loading and unloading processes for our freight customers. These efforts culminated in SCR achieving its highest-ever Originating loading of 141.12 Million tonnes, representing a historic milestone for the Zone.

South Central Railway has also attained its best-ever revenue in other coaching segment during the year 2023-24. This includes parcel Revenue, Ticket Checking Revenue

etc. The zone registered Rs. 512 Crore in other coaching segment during 2023-24 as compared to Rs. 414.87 crore during 2022-23. The zone has also registered Rs. 474 crores in Sundry earnings which is 28% more when compared to the last year of Rs 369 Crores.
