PR No. 167 - Nellore Railway Station Upgradation Works continue at fast pace


-Framed structure of Station buildings in East, West and North Side completed.

-85% construction of Subway o­n the west side of the station is completed


The upgradation works of Nellore Railway Station which have been taken up under EPC mode have been steadily progressing. The Station located o­n the Grand Trunk route is being upgraded to provide world class amenities with elegant features. The station redevelopment works have been awarded under EPC mode to M/s. SCL-GCPL Joint Ventures, Hyderabad in August 2022.


As part of the redevelopment, a new building (G+3 floors) is being constructed o­n the west side, while existing buildings o­n the east side (G+3) and north side (G+2) are being extended to meet the needs of rail users. Simultaneously, refurbishment and facade improvements of the buildings are also underway. In the first phase, site offices, a concrete testing lab, storage sheds and temporary sheds for the Railway Court and GRP offices have already been completed. The framed structures of station buildings o­n the east, west, and north sides have also been completed, and masonry work is in progress now. Further, Overhead tank construction is in progress for the east and west side buildings.


The redeveloped station will also have 36 mts width Air concourse. Accordingly, Air concourse related construction works has been completed upto Deck level including launching of girders and cross girders. Vertical column launching and 100% casting of concrete flooring o­n the deck slab are finished, and six out of eleven trusses have been launched. With regards to subway extension, 85% of subway extension is completed and further work is in progress. Provision of fire-fighting pipe line has been completed, while Granite flooring in subway is in progress.


With regards to other works, Erection of Cover over Platforms stanchions o­n all platforms and 90% of Galvalume sheet works have been completed. Simultaneously, construction of Permanent Court building, Ground level reservoir of 6 lakh litres capacity, Sewage treatment of 870 Kilo litres are nearing completion.


Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of SCR, has emphasized the importance of meticulous execution at every stage to ensure the timely completion of the station redevelopment. He also instructed the project team to carry out the works by taking all necessary safety precautions, while ensuring least inconvenience to the rail users. He said the redeveloped station will have a range of modern amenities designed to enhance the passenger experience including spacious waiting areas, state-of-the-art digital information displays, advanced security systems, green building practices, etc.
