Guntur Division is the link between Vijayawada and Guntakal and emerging as a freight transit corridor between these two divisions for iron ore and coal rake movement. This division has 2 tunnels, Bogada Tunnel (1.6KMs) and Chelama Tunnel(0.5KMs) and gradients in different block sections. There are two major crew lobbies one each at Guntur (GNT) and Nandyal (NDL).The Division is predominantly of diesel traction and traction change from electric to diesel is being arranged at Nallapadu (NLPD) which is about 5 KM from Guntur station.Nallapadu has become an important crew changing point for goods crew towards Nandyal, Pagidipalli, Vijayawada and Tenali sections.

Due to sustained efforts by Operating & Power branches, diesel loco utilization and 10 Hr rule implementation have been improving continuously.
RUNNING ROOMS AND LOBBIES:
The Division has established high standards of running room maintenance and also introduced subsidized meals at all the 4 Running Rooms. Guntur Division has been awarded with Efficiency Shield for Running Room at the zonal level for the year 2010-2011.Both Loco Pilot and Assistant Loco Pilot of the same train link have been provided accommodation in the same room for better co-ordination.
MODEL RUNNING ROOM, NALLAPADU
Spacious and hygienic dining room with good ventilation and teakwood dining table with powder coated perforated iron chairs.
Both lobbies at Guntur and Nandyal are equipped with CMS. Crew sign ‘ON’ and sign ‘OFF’ through CMS system is 100%. Crew lobby at GNT has been awarded as the Best Crew Lobby for the year 2009-10. The division is Operating 17 men Mail/Express link and 33 men passenger links.
Frequent counseling, is being done for Loco Pilot and Assistant Loco Pilot by Inspectors and Mechanical officers.This counseling is also supplemented with interaction by DRM with running staff regarding their grievances and problems in course of working.Simulator training has been organized for 34 weak Loco Pilots and their performance is being monitored by nominated inspectors.
A ”Self-Learning and Performance Evaluation” (Software Package)has been developed in house for improving the working knowledge of the Running Staff and installed at Crew Booking Cell, Guntur
TREATMENT OF ALCOHOL PRONE STAFF, REDUCTION IN NUMBERS:
The Division is following the procedure of checking the Running staff for alcohol consumption content by breathalyzers at Sign ON and Sign OFF.In addition, surprise checks are also conducted by loco inspectors on line to check the efficacy of 100% checks at lobby.During the last 2 years four cases have been detected.One has been sent for de-addiction camp and 2 have availed VR and one person was compulsorily retired.
SPEED GUN CHECKS
Six No’s of speed guns are procured and regular speed checks are being conducted by Power officers and Inspectors to ensure that the LPs are not over speeding.
Carriage & Wagon wing of Guntur Division plays a vital role in the running of passenger and freight traffic of S.C.Rly. There is Coaching Depot which has a holding of 165 coaches where primary maintenance of 5 Express, 4 Passenger rakes is carried out.
Rolling in/Rolling Out examination is being conducted at GNT for 78 trains and at NDL for 22 trains duly provided with infrastructure of flood lights & Non contact Thermometers etc. Carriage watering facilities are available at Guntur and Diguvametta where watering is done for 14 and 13 trains respectively.
GPS based Micro processor LED Destination boards are provided for 40 coaches and for balance coaches procurement action is in pipeline. Attention of IOH of passenger coaches was started at Guntur during February 2010. Pest control is being regularly attend-ed for AC and Non AC coaches on weekly and fortnightly basis respectively. Rodent control is being carried out regularly by providing Gum pads and cages. GPS based passenger information display boards are provided in AC Chair car coaches for the convenience of passengers to know the next approaching station well in advance.
ART COACH MODIFICATION The work of streamlining the layout of interior of the ART was done to ensure proper streamlining of material storage. All the items are stacked at nominated places. With this, traceability has improved to a great extent and label is given to each item which is displayed at the entrance of the ART. Due to this the traceability in accidents site become easier and resulting in lot of time saving. ‘Best Maintained ART Shield’ has been awarded in past 2 years.
HERITAGE CRANE One condemned 35T steam crane (No.SC TSC 3510) available at Guntakal Division was brought to Guntur for erecting as Heritage Rolling Stock.The crane was renovated and displayed as heritage rolling stock at New Guntur Station.
