Role of the S& T Department
The efficient upkeep of Signal and Telecommunication assets is the responsibility of the Signal and Telecommunication Department of the Hyderabad division in South Central Railway.
This division is having Signalling assets such as Single line Tokenless Block instruments, UFSBI, HASSDAC(BPAC), Panel/Electronic Interlocking, Integrated type LED Signal aspects, IRS Point machines, Emergency sliding booms and Electrically/Mechanically operated Lifting barriers for interlocked LC gates, DC Track Circuits, Analog and Digital Axle Counters, Integrated Power Supply systems, Dataloggers and Remote Terminal Units for monitoring online and offline data of stations, LC gates and Automatic signals. . These vital Signalling systems are essential and come under safety category for safe running of Trains.
Telecommunications plays important role in the division and is associated with Safety Communication, Operational Communication, Administrative Communication system and Passenger Amenities in the station. The passenger amenities provided in the stations are Digital GPS Platform Clocks, Public Address System (Manual and Microprocessor based), Train Information Boards, Coach Guidance display boards, At a glance coach guidance display boards and Divisional Train Enquiry system with Touch Screens gives various types of information to the passengers. Wi-Fi facility at stations, Counter communication facility at PRS/UT/Health units. TVs at waiting halls provided at major stations. In the security front line, IP based surveillance system plays key role. In addition to these, various data networks like PRS (Passenger Reservation System), UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) & FOIS (Freight Operations Information System) are being maintained by this division.
