1983                                                                  2023

        Electric Loco shed, Vijayawada was constructed as a part of BZA – MAS RE project to home 100 locos with Initial cost Rs. 2.40 crores, Area: 128800 sq.mts, Covered area: 9504 sq.mts (1981-82). Inaugurated formally on 12th April 1981 by the then Honorable MOSR Shri M.Mallikarjun.

THE JOURNEY OF ELS/BZA

•  07/03/1980 :Loco no. 21217 (WAM-4)received from CLW/CRJ, First Loco received.

•  11/03/1981 : 1st   A.C. loco no. 20710 (WAG-1) BIDHAN, rolled out from  CLW has been received. This loco was withdrawn from service on 15/12/1998 and has been kept in National Rail Museum, New Delhi.

•  “Best Stall award” in the Rail Carnival in 1997 &  Rail Mela in 1999.

•  2004-05, “THE BEST SHED IN INDIAN RAILWAYS” award.

•  14/07/2006: Celebrated Silver Jubilee and Shri Ramesh Chandra, the then ML/RB has taken part in the celebrations.

•  22/01/2010: ELS/BZA had a rare privilege of organizing CELE’s conference at ELS/BZA. Shri Kulbhushan, the then Advisor Loco/RB has headed the conference and CELE’s of all zonal Railways have participated in it.

•  Jan. 2012: Holding of ELS/BZA touched 208 which was highest ever by any shed in Indian Railways at that time.

ACTIVITIES

•  Electric Loco Shed Vijayawada is involved in ‘Maintenance and Repair’ facility for the electric locomotives. It is situated in the jurisdiction of Vijayawada division of South Central Railway.

•  Maintenance of  WAP4, WAG5 and WAG7  to ensure the safe and reliable operation of Locomotives by carrying out the following activities.

•  Preventive maintenance schedules include

(i) Major schedules: AOH, TOH and IOH

(ii) Minor schedules: IA, IB & IC

•  Breakdown maintenance schedules include

(i) Repairs to locomotives of ELS/BZA and other homing sheds running in the vicinity of Electric Loco Shed, Vijayawada.

•  Apart from Locomotive maintenance shed also carries out Major schedule like AOH, IOH of OHE tower cars of Vijayawada, Guntur, and Guntakal division.
