ELECTRIC LOCO SHED, VIJAYAWADA
Electric Loco Shed, Vijayawada was constructed as a part of BZA – MAS RE project to home 100 locos with an Initial cost of Rs. 2.40 crores, Area: 128800 sq.mts, Covered area: 9504 sq.mts (1981-82). Inaugurated formally on 12th April 1981 by the then Honorable MOSR Shri M. Mallikarjun.

Brief History of ELS/BZA• Foundation stone laid on 08.09.1972, by Shri. K.Hanumanthaiah, the then MOSR.
• Inaugurated formally on 12.04.1981, by Shri. M.Mallikarjun, the then MOSR.
• On 15-03-1980, 21223/WAM-4 of ELS/BZA successfully hauled first trail run with goods train between BZA and CLX under electrified section.
• On 21-03-1981, 21 coach superfast trains Tamilnadu express and Kerala express were hauled during their inaugural runs by ELS/BZA locos 21228/WAM-4 & 21230/WAM-4 respectively.
• Initial Holding 47 locomotives
• Presently, the shed has infrastructure to maintain 225 locomotives.
• Works related to Augmentation of homing capacity from 225 to 300 are under progress.
• Current loco holding is 259 locos.
ACTIVITIES• Electric Loco Shed Vijayawada is involved in ‘Maintenance and Repair’ facilities for electric locomotives. It is situated in the jurisdiction of the Vijayawada division of South Central Railway.
• Maintenance of WAP4, WAG5, and WAG7 to ensure the safe and reliable operation of locomotives by carrying out the following activities:
• Preventive maintenance schedules include:
(i) Major schedules: AOH, TOH, and IOH
(ii) Minor schedules: IA, IB & IC
• Breakdown maintenance schedules include:
Repairs to locomotives of ELS/BZA and other homing sheds running in the vicinity of Electric Loco Shed, Vijayawada.
